Friday Meanderings

All I have this week is personal stuff.  Nothing about Homosassa or anything in Florida, although it looks like BIG stuff is happening at 3 Sister’s Springs.

Should be interesting.

But let me get to my sweet little dog that I’ve had forever…..

Maggie’s been sick.

Poor Maggie

Had to take her to the vet.  X-ray, two shots, prescription, special food.  Ka-Ching.  X-ray showed she had bone pieces in her stomach.  We’ve never fed Maggie a bone in her life.

Boots, were you giving Maggie bones?

Boots
What, me?

Maggie’s feeling better but her walks are much shorter and a lot slower.  She’s 15. According to the world wide web, she has moved from senior to geriatric.

She’s already almost back to her old self!

Maggie
I want a treat and I want it now!

Some of you may remember that I wrote about our inspiration Shirley Magnie at 88. She’s passed her 90th birthday and is still going strong.  She recently had some issues and is in the hospital but will be out today. And back to Mexican Train, chorus, playing the organ, and all those other social engagements that keeps her busy.

Tomorrow is granddaughter Adley’s first birthday.

One year ago…

Brand New Adley
Brand New Adley

And yesterday

Adley
and how exactly can I get out of the barriers and upstairs to my MOM!

Over the last six weeks, we’ve watched Adley pull herself to standing and balancing precariously;  advancing to a Frankenstein walk a few days later; and now she’s more like the gingerbread man. Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me…..

Maggie is only safe from Adley’s inquisitive little fingers when the pooch is closed up in her crate. I actually have to lock the box because Adley has figured out how to open it.

And it’s just beginning!

We’ll be celebrating Adley’s big day this weekend.

Hope you have a great weekend, too!

Friday Meanderings

hammaock time

I totally missed posting most of last week.  Just being lazy.

And I had some company. (but that’s not my excuse)

Here’s a pic that I love of me, Jes, and Piper.

hammaock time

I couldn’t put it on my “project 365” page because I didn’t actually take it.  Alan had my camera and was snapping like crazy.

I always say, take 500 photos and one will be really good!

My main camera lens (18-55 mm) broke.  Not actually broke.  But it won’t “auto-focus”.  I have to put it on manual and going to say 5 out of 6 snaps are blurry.  You might have noticed that the quality of some of the pics from yesterday’s post were pretty bad.

This lens came with the camera body and I’m debating whether to replace it or just struggle. I did go out to Amazon to check on pricing and was surprised at how expensive they are.  It wasn’t much more for the entire camera kit.

Heavy sigh.  Maybe using manual focus will make me a better photographer.

Or just a more frustrated one…

Nah, I’m getting a new lens.  Just gotta do the research and buy the right one.

Got some controversy going on in Homosassa.  A local property owner has requested permission to build a helipad on his acreage.   When I first read about it, I thought “so?” A helicopter used to land on private property over off of Garcia and that didn’t seem to be a problem.  But the new helipad will be closer to the wildlife refuge which is prompting concerns.  There will be public info meeting on September 3rd in Lecanto.  Don’t have any further info on that yet but we plan to attend.  I’ll try to get more details by next Friday.

Want to remind everyone that the Old Homosassa Heritage Council meeting has been moved from the 2nd Wednesday this month (August 12) to the 3rd Wednesday (August 19) to accommodate an engineer that will be finalizing the contract for the Water Tower maintenance.  We will be meeting at the Homosassa Civic Club at 5:30.

Have a great weekend.

Out and About: Magnolia Terrace Tea Room

Magnolia Terrace Tea Room

A few of you may know that my sister Ellen, (Michelle’s mother) has been going through some trying times.  She was scheduled for surgery last month and I invited Ellen and Michelle to join me for a special lunch to celebrate our lives.  Since they both live in Hernando County, I asked Michelle to pick a spot close to their homes.

Michelle suggested the Magnolia Terrace Tea Room located at 6282 Commercial Way in Weeki Wachee.  (That’s the plaza on US-19 just north of Cortez Blvd. that has the Winn-Dixie.)

This was my first time at this tea room.  Michelle had been there before with a group of girlfriends for a Christmas party.  They rented the whole place and had an appropriately festive event.

We arrived after the lunch rush so had the place almost entirely to ourselves.  While they say on their website that “It’s Tea Time all day at The Magnolia Terrace Tea Room”, they just happened to have wine!  So you know what we ordered!

Hey this was a celebration of life!

The sandwiches can be ordered on different types of bread or as a salad.

Our server was pleasant and attentive, the food was excellent, and the setting lovely.  The right place for our special lunch.  I definitely recommend and will be returning–I might even try the tea next time!

The Magnolia Terrace Tea Room is open on Monday through Friday from 11 am to 4 pm, on Saturday from 12 pm to 4 pm and on Sundays for special events only. Call for reservations at 352-556-4819 or email info@magnoliaterracetearoom.com
