Friday Meanderings

Happy Friday!

I’m still pretty excited about the Public Hearing on Wednesday with the Board of County Commissioners where they unanimously voted against the 110-room hotel on wetlands on Halls River Road.  I have nothing against progress, but there’s a right way to do it.  So encouraged with the turnout at the meeting and how the commissioners voted.

I followed up with the county last week asking about the status of the sidewalks in Old Homosassa on Yulee Drive.  Mostly got the same response…”we are considering your suggestions”  but I did get this email from Walt Eastmond

Good afternoon Kathy – The consultant is continuing to work on the project.  The construction plans are progressing to the 90% phase and are expected to be sent to us for review in May.   About a month or so ago the consulting engineer and I went to the site to review the tree and sidewalk conflicts to try to determine an alternate route for the sidewalk and yet still meet all of the Federal requirements.  I want to say that we were successful in  resolving all of the conflicts; however, I need to hold off on my optimism until the design and engineering analysis is complete for the new sidewalk route.  If the design and engineering can be accomplished as we have proposed in the field then we will be able to work around each of the  trees.

Hope this is helpful.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Sincerely,

Walt Eastmond

Mr. Eastmond made me feel like someone is actually reading my emails!  Thank you Mr. Eastmond!  Looking forward to reviewing the “90% plan.”

You know those “yard sales” we had out on 19 last weekend from 98 to Crystal River Mall? Does anyone else think that’s a bad idea? One of the busiest roads in Citrus County bordered with yard sales.  And people driving willy-nilly to get the bargains? And this is now semi-annual.  Crazy Cakes.  I don’t know how that is improving our lives here in Citrus County.

Hey, if anyone wants the new Old Homosassa Heritage Council T-Shirts, the Watson Art Gallery will have some available.  They are VERY nice!  And the money goes to a good cause–preserving and enhancing our community!

Have a great weekend!

Friday Meanderings

So excited!

Jes and Andrew are flying in tonight!

Nothing but fun there!

We’ll be boating and eating and drinking and partying.

Same old, same old.Cause it’s always a party in Old Homosassa!

I haven’t posted as much as usual this week.  Banjo Camp set me back a little.

And then I met up with a cousin that I haven’t seen in many many years.  He claimed 50. So I was 9 the last time I saw him?

That’s me, Al, my sister Ellen, and my niece Michelle.

After a lovely lunch with my sister Ellen (the famous artist) and my niece Michelle (the famous blogger) Al and I plus two of his friends went to the Florida National Cemetery to see my parent’s grave site.  My dad was in the army in WWII so that’s where he and my mom are buried. It’s a beautiful site–well cared for–but HUGE.  Even though I had a map and had the numbers where their plot is, it took awhile to find it.

But we did.

And what’s going on this weekend?

A great band on Saturday evening at the Shed.  We plan to be there!

Oh yeah, and it’s Easter. Easter egg coloring and hunts will ensue!

Most important of ALL!

Next week we have lots of meetings.

Monday at 7 pm is the monthly Homosassa Civic Club meeting.  It costs $3.00 to belong to this group.  They do a lot of good works and the membership is dwindling.  We need YOU to join.  Come on, 3 bucks. Be there a little early so you can join.  One hour of your life once a month.

Wednesday night at 5:30 is the Old Homosassa Heritage Council Meeting held at the Gator Den.  This group’s dues are a bit more.  $15.  This group is working on preserving and enhancing Old Homosassa starting with the water tower. In the meantime we are watching the progress of our new sidewalks and trying to keep tabs on everything in Old Homosassa!

The River Alliance meets Thursday evening.  I’m not a member of this group but they also are a plus to the community.  Their current big project is to stop the hotel that’s planned on Halls River Road.  That development is nothing but ridiculous.  Terry and I will be attending the hearing in Inverness on April 14th at 5:01 pm.

Okay.  That’s it!

Have a great Easter!

Friday Meanderings

Can the weather get any better here on the Nature Coast?  Sunny, 80 degree temperatures, sunny. Sunny.  Can I say that too much?

I’ve been organizing, tossing things, working in my yard.

The hummingbirds, butterflies, and the swallow tail kites are back.

All signs that it’s SPRING!

My favorite time of the year.  I’m so energized and ready to tackle anything and everything.

Which is probably why I’m not quite keeping up….

I haven’t been posting to Project 365 every day.  I take the photo but don’t always get it uploaded until the next day.  Is that cheating?  I decided–NO.

I just finished designing the BRAND SPANKING NEW website for The Old Homosassa Heritage Council.  www.oldhomosassaheritagecouncil.com  This is such a GREAT group. Everyone is enthusiastic and we all have a common mission–to preserve Old Homosassa.  First project is saving the water tower and it has been purchased!  Now we need to raise money to restore and maintain it.  Meanwhile we are fighting for a sidewalk that goes around our lovely trees.

Me and my happy banjo are going to BANJO camp!  So excited!

Yet no one else seems to appreciate this piece of news, every time I tell someone about this big event, the eyes kind of roll back up inside the head and the subject is changed.

What!!!!

Just gotta say that it’s next weekend.  This is BIG stuff. Terry (he really wanted to go because he just can not get enough of hearing my bad banjo playing) is staying home with Maggie because dogs aren’t allowed.  But they already have all kinds of fun things planned. Like golf. Fishing. A lot of TV.

I haven’t been keeping up with local events so I asked Terry what’s going on.  A MOPAR show on Saturday in Inverness.  Fort Cooper Days at Fort Cooper State Park.  Something in Floral City. And I said, “why didn’t I see all that?”  And he said, “because your face is always in that computer.”

Oh, yeah.

And Terry said, “what’s with all the rabbits” and I said “good golly, it’s almost Easter!” And you know I say “good golly” a lot!!

Have a great weekend!
