Happy Simplicity Day!

I’ve decided to start celebrating more holidays. Today, July 12th, is Simplicity Day. How do I know that? I googled it of course. So this should be a simple post. But it’s not. I have pics and things to say!

Speaking of holidays, it’s Christmas in July! Time to get all those Christmas projects started so you can panic two weeks before the BIG holiday because they STIll aren’t finished. (I have a project I bought all the fabric and supplies for two years ago and it still sits unfinished. Maybe that’s what I should complete before I start something new!)

And back to Old Homosassa, if you have been watching the progress on the Old Homosassa Water Tower…….the landscaping has started.

First the chain link fence around the sides and back was cleaned and painted black. Temporary fencing was installed.

The fill dirt has been brought in.

Now there is a big pile of aggregate sitting there which will be spread around. Landscaping, fencing, and adjusting the lighting is all that remains! Yippee!

Yesterday was the dedication of the Yulee Sidewalk! Most of the people that showed up were those that get the Citrus County Chronicle and all the important people from the county government, the park service, some reps from state, and the contractor. Of course Terry and I rode our bikes down. Someone had to represent the bicycle riders!

How cute is that face!

The county publicity person took a photo of all of us. She requested that the dogs be on one side and the bikes on the other. Yes–people do use the sidewalk! Mike Wright, the reporter, showed up and did some interviews. Maybe we’ll be in the paper again!

Again, you say?

Here is a article from this week’s Hometown Happenings!

Body Sculpting

Old Homosassa has been getting some good press lately. The free camp, the scholarship kids, and now the fitness program! Yeah!

I was out taking snaps of all the pretty plants in my yard for my OTHER blog this past week. And decided to share a few here.

SQUIRRELS IN THE HOOD!

This is Deedo, the squirrels don’t respect him either.

Just some pics of giant boulders or manatees in my back yard.

After a recent piano lesson, one of the students got bored waiting for Mom to finish a project that she was working on. New uses for yoga blocks!

Sarasota Slim was at the Shed on Sunday. Really great band with a huge following and it’s usually standing room only. Lucky for us, it looked like rain and not as many people showed up. We actually got to sit at a table!

One last thought. I posted about the price war over parking last week in Old Homosassa. The American Legion did very well for their post despite the private owners dropping their price back to $10 per truck/boat trailer. I’m sure we haven’t heard the end of it!

Have a great weekend! Could be some rain!

2015 Cobia Tournament

Terry, Maggie and I usually go to the early morning start when the captains and their crews take off.  Lots of fun on Saturday.  Sunday is usually more low key.  This is our first year that we were there for the Friday evening events plus Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  We were both amazed at the hoards of people that showed up.  Along with Rodney and Marian MacRae and John and Donna Fletcher, we sold a lot of raffle tickets and t-shirts.  Plus we got the word out about The Old Homosassa Heritage Council.  A very successful weekend!

Some snaps from the festivities.

Don’t see that everyday!

boats
Sunday morning is always a little more laid back. Less boats. Not so much excitement. No wake this morning. But that could be because law enforcement was waiting around the corner and snagged the boat that was leading the pack!

Big boats and little boats participate.

While most of participants were men, there were also several women that participated.

Rodney and Donna did a little PR with the local radio station. Getting the message out!

Friday Meanderings

Not so many meanderings today, I actually have news!

Terry and I went into the Homosassa Library to check out the 90% plans for the Yulee Drive Sidewalk in Old Homosassa.  I’ve been on my soapbox about the sidewalks for a few months.  Writing commissioners and other county officials and alerting friends, neighbors and anyone else I could get to listen!

Happy to see that all that noise I made might have paid off!

The sidewalk goes around ALL of the trees that had previously been marked to be removed. I plan to send a BIG Thank You to all the people I’ve been bugging at the county offices.  Also want to say thanks to everyone out there that also called and emailed our officials!

You remember those old movies where the spy would surreptitiously take pictures of the secret plans with her tiny camera?  Well, I didn’t even have to hide my camera and these photos didn’t turn out all that great.  Do not think I’d make a very good spy!

The most important thing on all these photos is that there are little bumps where the sidewalk goes around the trees.  These pics start at the exisiting sidewalk and go just past Anchorage Street.

The library also has a copy of the old plans on display so we were able to compare the old with the new.

I’ve highlighted so you can see the difference. The top plan is the new one. The bottom plan had the tree removal.

If you are interested in seeing the plans a little more clearly, I would highly recommend stopping in at the library.  The plans will be there until next Friday, the 22nd.

What else is going on?

There’s an All Hazards and Hurricane Expo at the Crystal River Mall on Saturday.  It’s almost Hurricane Season!

Monday is the Acoustic Meetup at the Coastal Regions Library in Crystal River.  From 2 – 4:30.  Open to anyone that plays an acoustic instrument or just wants to sing.  We also welcome listeners.

On May 25th, Memorial Day, there will be a special service at the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial at 2:00.  Parking is available at the elementary school.

The annual Big Fish Cobia tournament is on June 6th and 7th which is right around the corner.  The Old Homosassa Heritage Council will have a booth there.  If you don’t yet have your beautiful high quality t-shirt yet, they’ll be available.  They are really popular and we’ve already sold a bunch.  DeeDee Wilcox, co-chair of the organization just made her third bulk order! You can also buy them at Watson’s Art Gallery in Old Homosassa and River Haven Marina on the other side of the river.

Scalloping season this year is June 27 through September 24.  Are we ready for that?

Have a great weekend!
