Island Dogs

We take cocktail cruises out to Mason Creek and turn around just past Petty Creek.  At that juncture, there is an island inhabited by three really really big dogs.  We haven’t seen their people.  Could they be there by themselves–surviving by their own wits and survival skills?

Danger! Sound the alert. Trespassers!

It’s that Fat Jack, a tasty appetizer! Quick untie the boat!
Dogs in the Hood
Untie the boat, how am I supposed to do that?

Whatta ya mean, you don’t have thumbs! You have got to come up with a new excuse!

Pheww, that was a close one!

Bacca
Love this photo because it shows Bacca’s “I’m a big dog!” personality. Hate that sun spot on the middle of his forehead but couldn’t get rid of it, even in Photoshop.
Pam
Pam’s an Australian Shepard and lives on the canal around the corner from us. Some mornings she comes down to MacRae’s with her person. She’s a bit shy and doesn’t like her picture taken–or maybe she doesn’t like being anywhere near Maggie.

Diesel
Diesel is the first dog we encounter on our cruise out to the gulf. We think he’s all bark–so far no bite.
Pam 2
Here’s Pam, again. Spotted her in the wrong backyard along the canal. As usual, she’s pretending I don’t exist.
Sparky
Sparky is a neighbor and doesn’t live on the water but he was hanging here with Pam. Not sure why he or Pam were in this back yard–perhaps they were out for a stroll.

Still do not know this little pooch’s name. There are three of these cuties that like to let us know their displeasure with us using their canal.
Ethel
Ethel is another little dog with a “I’m a big dog” personality.  She’s also the same kind of Jack as Maggie — short legs and pointy ears.

Dogs in the Hood

We met a new dog this weekend and he was sure happy to see us!  He was quite the barker and Maggie stayed far away!  I’m not sure what his name was since his person said it changes daily so I’m just going to call him Happy Yappy.

Dog

This dog visits The Shed quite a bit but we haven’t been formally introduced.  So I just call him the Big Red Dog.  He’s very laid back and would like to be Maggie’s friend but she has sent him ‘stay away’ vibes and he respects her feelings.

Big Red Dog

And here’s Ruby.  She used to run loose at the Shed but she was a bad girl at some point and now is on her leash at all times.  Ruby is almost the sweetest dog ever.

I haven’t been able to get Maggie to pose for me since I started photographing other dogs.  She used to be quite the model and got very excited whenever I got the camera out.  Now she just acts miffed and turns away.  But I tricked her into this shot by telling her that her nemesis Daisy was on her way to have a conversation. Maggie was like “DAISY-where?! I can take her!”  They’d already exchanged a few choice words and they weren’t nice ones.

Magster the wagsterAnd here’s a special guest.  Reeses doesn’t really live in the hood but I went to visit her the other day.  Her people are renovating their house and she’s helping by disposing of some trash wood.  “Just trying to do my part!”

Reeses

That’s it for the Dogs in the Hood this month!
