Friday Meanderings

I’m a wee bit late on the Friday Meanderings.

I usually pull it together on Thursday evening but had a bit of a set back yesterday and really didn’t feel like posting.

So here I am 24 hours later and ready to post (whine).

Having some major construction going on in our back yard.

Which means….

the sprinkler system is down

the pavers paths are destroyed

mountains of dirt and rocks everywhere

my flower gardens are very sad

a major hill of dirt in front of the house.

The project was supposed to be FINISHED next week.

But.

No one worked on it this week.

Called.  No return calls.  This company was highly recommended by more than one source.

One of the workers that did show up for 10 minutes said there was a problem with Swift Mud.  For my non-local readers, that is our local state water district.  We live on a canal on a creek that leads to the Gulf.  Swift Mud is GOD.  This could be a very major set back.

So. Here. Are. Some. Happy. Photos. That. I. Took. Today.

These are my beautiful white caladiums from the “white and blue garden”.  You might note the leaves.  I don’t use mulch.  I did when I first moved here.  Then we had a flood (first of numerous floods) and all the mulch floated away.  My neighbor thought it was pretty funny.  “That’s gonna fly when you go to mow over it!”

Pink Caladiums in the back.

When my dad passed away many years ago I received a pot of peace lilies. At the time I had two houses and knew that the beautiful lilies would die with no water while I was gone.  Planted them in the back yard where the sprinklers would hit them.  They die back every winter.  We cut them to the ground.  And they come back.  We have more every year.  I’ve given them to neighbors.

Shooting star hydrangea that my niece Michelle gave me many years ago.  It’s SO beautiful.

Shooting star hydrangea

Even beautiful when it’s not fully bloomed!

And my BLUE “endless summer” hydrangea that continues to defy me!

hydrangea
Oh yeah, that’s pink!

To be fair, I’ve moved this poor little bush so many times.  it has not been happy at all until it’s current location in the “white and blue” garden.  So I’m glad that it’s still alive.

But this guy has been around for awhile. He gets an ugly fungus every year.  Used a fungicide that Southern Living magazine  recommended.  Didn’t work.  Cut it all the way to the ground last winter.

How pretty is he now????

hydrangea

He’s quite stubborn but is slowly turning blue–thanks to chemicals.

I think these pretties will be coming into the house in a pretty white vase!

The only rose I can grow here. (believe me, I’ve tried others) Don Juan.  Love it SO much!

Don Juan Rose

Okay.  So because of the construction, these pots that are normally on the back deck are huddled here until a huge live oak.  Because we have to paint the deck AFTER the construction is finished.

planters

Just a little close up.

pots

This is just a pot of vincas and pentas.  But I love the blue and those bunny feet.  Makes me happy.

These chairs have been upside down on my potting deck since Hurricane Irma came through LAST SEPTEMBER!  I usually give them a new layer of paint and have them out by the water in March.  Yes.  I’m blaming the never-ending turmoil in my back yard. But I have pulled them out and they will get their lovely new coat this week!

chairs

Okay.  So. You might be able to tell that I’m not VERY HAPPY about how things are going.  Hopefully next Friday I can give you a happier update.

But at least I have this view.  Swift Mud can’t take that away from me!

Have a great weekend!

Friday Meanderings

Well, I screwed up and put up my Friday post on Tuesday.  That’s what I get for trying to use the iPad.

Anyhow, our sweet pooch Maggie passed away on Monday.  She was 18 years and 5 months old.  Up until two weeks ago she was still taking a 1 mile walk on most days of the week.  Then she just quit–wouldn’t go past the end of our road and that was just so she could check to see if her best doggie friend Gus was out. So we started taking her on bike or golf cart rides instead.

Maggie came to us when she was only six weeks old.  She traveled throughout the country–Terry often said that she flew more than most people!  After she started going deaf and blind, we drove with her since she couldn’t hear or see commands.

I could possibly write a whole book about her and our adventures but I thought I’d just throw some photos up of her.

Maggie liked the water this high. She could easily pull her own ball out of the water after she tossed it in.

Dogs in the Hood
Maggie REALLY didn’t like the grandkids at first. But then she figured out that once they start walking, they usually have snacks that they like to share! Besties!

Friday Meanderings on a Tuesday

Ice
The end of April and still ice covered ponds.

Made it through 8 days and nights without a REAL computer with lots of memory and a keyboard. Here’s a snap of one of the reasons I didn’t want to drag it along on my flights to ND.

Express jet
And no, I don’t know who that guy is!

Plus there’s that 4 hour layover in Denver where I walk from one end of the airport where the big jets land to the other end where the wee jet gates are. Then walking from that gate for about another mile to board baby jet on the tarmac. Got my 10,000 steps in that day!

So I’ve been taking photos and blogging on my iPad Pro and iPhone. I downloaded a bunch of apps for photo fixing and finally found one that let me resize my photos to fit my blogs. And is one advertisement after the other. (No, I do not need …) Very frustrating but it works. Well maybe not. Sometimes the apps decide to crop differently then I expect.

Cookie time

And as promised last week, I have pics!

Adley never sleeps a whole night in her own bed. “I scared” Sometime between 2 and 3 in the morning she very noisily crawls into my bed.
Adley
Then wakes up a happy baby about 7 am. Grandma’s not so happy since she’s been up since 2 or 3 in the morning.
Adley
Yes! I am that Grandma! But at least she’s drinking milk rather than a coke!
Good morning
Good morning pic before school/daycare. (Grandma is very thankful for school/daycare and that the kids each have their own tablets)
Karate Kitty!
Uke
Got the girls ukuleles. Piper learned four chords. Adley not so interested. That uke is coming back to Florida to be replaced with drums. I’m sure her mom and dad will love that!
Cat
This is a Pewter. He has gained a LOT of weight since last August. Pewter, you might want to consider Weight Watchers.

Deep thoughts….

I blame a lot of my “ailments” on a little too much wine.

Can’t sleep….quit drinking

wake up feeling exhausted….quit drinking

can’t  concentrate….quit drinking

can’t  lose weight…..quit drinking

So I quit. For 7 days. (Only because I was entirely responsible for those two sweet girls) Still couldn’t  sleep, still woke up exhausted, still couldn’t concentrate, and still didn’t lose weight.

And now for another glass of wine.

Hey, I live in Old Homosassa. One of the few southern communities that have more bars than churches. Which begs the question…. Do we move to Old Homosassa because we drink or does living in Old Homosassa make us drink?

Have a happy week!

Kathy
