Friday Meanderings

So what’s going on in your life?

Here’s what’s happening in mine!

It’s great weather here on the nature coast.  I’ve been spending mornings trying to beat back the weeds in the flower beds.  Just want to keep ahead.  (ain’t happening) The flowers are beautiful.  Birds and butterflies everywhere.  If I only stayed home long enough to enjoy it!

Cause I got stuff to do!

First thing is I want to tell you that this is a Remora. Terry caught it while we were fishing in the “flats”. I know, you already knew it and didn’t bother to tell me!   so embarrassed

cobia

A good friend that volunteers at the Learning Center knew immediately what it was when I showed her the photo! And here’s what the WORLD WIDE WEB says:

The remora fish attaches to the belly of the shark by a sucker disc in it’s mouth. It travels everywhere the shark goes. It eats any parasites on the shark which helps keep the shark clean. It also eats any leftover food from the shark. The remora (sucker fish) gets to eat and the shark stays clean and healthy.

So my friend says that sneaker tread mark on the top of its head attaches to the shark.  Yeck! And why was it out attacking our fake fish bait?????

Hope it found its shark!

And I hope it was not a big shark because now I’m thinking about that was a really big remora and does that mean that there’s a really big shark in the flats?

Okay.  Next up.  The Bluegrass Festival.  Went there to find a cool band for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.

Fail.

They were okay.

But we need a band that will make people get up and dance.  And buy beer.  Yep.  That’s a BIG money maker for the festival.  And the one I liked sang a lot of gospel.  Probably not a big seller of Adult Beverages!

But Fort Cooper is amazing.  We need to go back and just check out the entire place. It’s one of the FEW places I haven’t posted about!!!!!

On Sunday we went to Mainsail Festival at Vinoy Park in St. Pete.  Only took us 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there.  Then it took us 20 minutes to find parking that was 30 minutes away!

Okay.  I exaggerate.  But you know what I mean!

We were going to check out the competition for the Homosassa Festival. And exactly how do you compete with this….

What a BEAUTIFUL setting!

Our friend and neighbor, Kevin Jenkins got a red ribbon.

I love his art.  I think I need some of those fish on one of my walls!

Next up, the Old Homosassa Heritage Council Scavenger Hunt.  Kick-off party was Sunday night.

Fun. Fun. Fun.  If you haven’t entered already, it’s not too late.  Registration cuts off on May 20th.  All donations go to painting that water tower.  (I know, you’ve heard that before)

Anyhow, I write for NatureCoaster.com now and post on Tuesdays.  Here’s the post and photos from that:  https://www.naturecoaster.com/scavenger-hunt-with-the-old-homosassa-heritage-council/

Just wanna say, I’m still posting at least three days a week–just on three different blogs.  And I post on the FB pages for the Old Homosassa Heritage Council, The Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival, the Old Homosassa Learning Center, and the Old Homosassa Civic Club. And I do all their websites and now I’m feeling really tired.

And I instagram.  DesignsKTG. That’s me.

Here’s a couple of my instagram snaps:

What happened to the deck???

Finished!

And here I am snapping a snappity snap of the door at the Homosassa Special Water District:

And because I still do the entertainment for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival, very excited about the new stage.

I also do the website and am now the assistant to the Crafts Director.

Got Craft???

This weekend is a little more laid back.  On Saturday we are headed to Cayla’s Coat’s Disco Night.  This group gives money to coats, swim lessons, and life jackets.  It’s a sad story that I might have told you before and I’m not going into again.  But it’s a great cause.

And then I’m taking it easy.  Probably be out fighting back those weeds!

Have a great weekend!

Kathy

Friday Meanderings

I’m back!

It’s Friday!

So what’s going on?

My daughter and son-in-law’s fourth anniversary yesterday!

JesAndy Jubilee JesAndy Jubilee

These two were meant for each other!

Our friend Yvonne lent that dress to Jessica.  It’s still in my closet.  It’s quite the antique. The fabric is very very very fragile.

And Beautiful.  Like my daughter and her husband.

Their wedding was in our back yard and we have another one being held there in May.Our friends and neighbors’ daughter Anastasia and her fiance Josh.  So excited that they can start their new life right here.  Marriages in our backyard last forever!

And here’s a beautiful walking iris that plant-sharing neighbor gave me.

I spent many hours in the Learning Center this week plus lots of time updating websites and emailing 10,000 people.  And I have so much more to do.

But Terry was in a fishing tournament with his fishing club this week.  And asked me to be his guest.  And you know I said YES!

I’m not much of a fisher person.  The only fish I catch are those that decide to commit suicide by impaling themselves on the hook.  But still, I cast, reel in, cast, reel in.

We saw two sting rays, a million sea turtles, and over a dozen dolphins.

Cast, reel in, cast, reel in.

Successful Fishing Trip!

Terry caught a keeper!
cobia
We think this was a cobia. Not sure. Too small anyhow. We threw it back.

Okay.  So what’s going on this weekend?

This is where we are headed!

Bluegrass Festival at Fort Cooper on Saturday.   Checking out the talent for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.

Mainsail Art Festival in St. Pete on Saturday and Sunday.  One of the TOP art festivals in the country.  Since Terry and I are totally wanting to move the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival to the upper niche, we will be there on Sunday.  (Plus our local artist and Learning Center supporter Kevin Jenkins is exhibiting his works.)

And MOST IMPORTANT is the kick-off party for the AMAZING RACE.  A fund-raiser for the Old Homosassa Heritage Council.  Stop by the Village Toyota Parts department to sign up on Sunday at 4 pm.  For $25 you get a t-shirt or poster and entered into the race.  Clues will be given every week in the Citrus Chronicle, on the local stations, and the OHHC Facebook page.

Whatever you do, get outside!  It will be another beautiful weekend!

Have a great one!

Friday Meanderings

Okay, so am I the luckiest person in the world. Between all the nature in my backyard and all the music in my head, I could not ask for more!

Right?

Went to Banjo Camp and survived.  It’s always very amazing.  Top banjo pros from all over the country–I have their books, I have their albums!  And they are teaching me!  Okay, it’s not one on one, but none of the classes have more than 20 people in them and most have less than a dozen.

banjo instructors
These three are some of the top banjo players in the world. All progressive in their era. The man in the middle is Alan Munde, the guy on the left is James McKinney and the young person on the right is Wes Corbett. These men have been pivotal in banjo music. And I love it but you are saying, who are these people???? And I’m saying, best concert ever! And I was about five feet from them.

This is my third year at banjo camp and every year I leave saying, I gotta practice more!

To those that might remember my bit about the hummingbirds versus the honey bees last week, we changed out the feeder for a “flying saucer” looking one.  This was one of the suggestions on the Internet and I actually had one in the cupboard.  Have to admit I had the same problem a few years ago with the honeybees and ordered this crazy piece but the hummers wouldn’t use it.  I stuck it in the cupboard and its been resting there.

In desperation, we put it back up and the honey bees were all over it at first and the hummingbirds wouldn’t even land there.

But….after a week, they finally started using it.  Yeah!  And the bees can’t get into it.  Success! (And I gotta say I love these photos! I think these might be black and white and framed in the future)

Okay.  These photos aren’t quite as good.  I was out for a walk (very slow jog) and this is what I came across….

Friday Meanderings

Okay.  Like I already said, the snaps aren’t all that great.SO PIXELEATED! RIGHT?  But it was my iPhone and I was many yards away from this little lady.

And away she goes!

And on Thursday we went to Bluebird Springs.  The annual Homosassa River Alliance picnic meeting.  This is our first year.  Bluebird Springs is amazing.  And it needs cleaned up.  New project?  Oh my my my, totally needs the “Greens” to take this on!

Oh yeah!

Hey, get outside and enjoy this weather!  It will be 90 degrees and 90 percent humidity in just a matter of days!

Have a great weekend!
