on a winter afternoon
I’m back!!!
And so sad that the holidays are over. so sad.
All the bright lights and bling. The parties. The food. The family. The friends.
Truly my favorite time of the year. What do I have to look forward to in January? Inauguration? Presidents Day? Martin Luther King Jr. day? How do I decorate for those? And who actually has a sparkly party for those occasions?
But anyhow….
I was in North Dakota for five days. Would have been six but there was a white-out blizzard in the tundra on Christmas Day and my flight was moved to Tuesday. And it was 2 degrees when I landed. I took my first breath of that frigid air my lungs froze up. Really. I’ve been to ND many times during the cold months (which are september to april) in the past six years but it’s never been that cold or had that much snow.
Fortunately, my son and daughter-in-law take very good care of me and most of my visit was spent indoors. (I did some shuffling bundled from the house to the car to the event) And I had a wonderful time despite all of those towering drifts of snow.
I suggested to granddaughter Piper that she could go out her back door, get on the top of the patio table, and sled to the bottom of the hill. And she said “I hate sled-riding, it gets snow in my pants!”
That girl is destined to live in Florida with her G’ma! (when she’s 18!)
I traveled to ND to attend my daughter-in-laws 40th birthday party. Like I mentioned in my last post I didn’t bring my camera. All my snaps are from my iPhone. Therefore, I don’t have any photos from the party or the partiers.
But here’s Piper and Adley all dressed up and ready to go!
Although I did grab my DIL’s camera and took a lot of snaps–that memory card is back in the cold white north. And I’ve heard rumours that there is a video of me doing karaoke. (blackmail?) Very scary.
So, does anyone have any great resolutions or goals for 2-0-1-7????
I don’t. I’m not a resoluting, goal-making kind of person.
But I will tell you now what I am not doing.
No more Project 365. No posting a photo a day. (Not that I actually posted every day this year) Sorry Yvonne!
The last few months I’ve been quite erratic on the whole photo a day thing.
I’ll still be taking pics–but not posting them daily. It just got too difficult and turned into a trial rather than fun.
The joy was gone.
Again, Sorry Yvonne!
But, until our friends in Russia take over my blog, I’ll keep sporadically posting!
Thanks for continuing to follow my little (im) perfect life!
Kathy
Well, I’ve posted three times this week! Pretty amazing! I actually had planned on posting FOUR TIMES but on Monday I discovered that this website was down! Surprise! No one even told me. (and who exactly would tell me?)
Crash City. So I think it might have been down all last weekend.
I’ve had no end of computer problems in the last few months. Got a new router that I mentioned last Friday and it is a BAD piece of equipment. Emailed the company so I can send it back. Twice. Guess the help desks in India and Pakistan are off celebrating the holidays because I still haven’t got a reply. Yes, I could call. And then be told, is your computer on? Is your modem plugged in? Do you see lights?
No. It’s defective. I need a new one.
And….I occasionally check with Google to see who is looking at my blogs. Guess where my most frequent visitors live? Saint Petersburg! And not the one in Florida! Moscow is number five. Think the DNC is not the only website that Russia is interested in! They are after the entire WORLD WIDE WEB! Which led me to think, how much longer can I keep up this website without it getting hacked completely? Or any blogger that just does it for fun?
Okay, let’s talk about some real fun stuff! Cause I always want to have fun!
We were in the Homosassa Christmas Golf Cart Parade last Friday. Now that was Fun! Seventeen golf carts got together and drove from the Old Mill to the Shed and then to the Freezer. Two golf carts had entire lit up Christmas trees on top! We were definitely under-decorated. Hey, it was our first year! Wait until 2017! Woo-hoo! (I think I’m going to leave that “Be Merry” sentiment on the front of the cart–why shouldn’t we be merry all year?)
The Children’s Outreach at the Homosassa Civic Club was Saturday afternoon. The club was able to double our efforts this year thanks to tips from beer and the money made off of soda and water sales at the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival. Our Festival Arts Chairperson, Rhonda, headed up the effort along with her two elves. The club reaches out to the Homosassa Elementary School and asks for families that could use some help for Christmas. We sponsored 24 kids this year. Gifts from the kids’ Santa list are purchased and wrapped then the parents pick them up and put them under the tree so the kids can open them on Christmas morning. We also have a party with the best Santa ever. Sweet treats. Crafts. Gifts. And we raffled off 8 teddy bears. Those that didn’t win a teddy bear got to go up and pick up more of the small gifts that Santa was handing out. We had 21 children attend and they were so excited for everything! It was a wonderful afternoon.
Homosassa Christmas Boat Parade was Saturday night. Another Amazing Event. I didn’t take photos because I’m not that good of a photographer–I just get blurry blobs of light. But there was a jet! That moved and twisted. And a lot of other great boats. Best boat parade ever! (Yeah, you are thinking, she says that every year!)
Then we got thrown into more drama at the Homosassa Civic Club. Same people. Same crap. But this time–I DON’T CARE!!!!! Some people just have to make a lot of noise while they are moving through the universe.
We have a solid volunteer group at the club. Anytime help is needed–from cleaning up flood water in the civic club building to running the festival to buying those gifts for the Children’s Outreach–they are there.
These noisy people are not part of that group. They like to point fingers. Like to be judgmental. Like to do secretive mean things. Like to cry out that they’ve been “bullied”. Lots of words but no works. They REALLY like to make noise. And right now they are making a lot of it.
I have two quotes from two wise people that I go to when I run into these situations:
“The definition of Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Albert Einstein
and
“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” Mark Twain
Meanwhile. We continue reaching out to the community–especially the children.
Hey, I’m off to North Dakota for my daughter-in-law’s 40th birthday party on Monday. My wise husband and little dog are staying in the sunshine state. I’m not taking a computer or even my camera! Gotta pack sparingly since I’m flying Allegiant that weighs you as you come on the plane and charges extra for those Christmas pounds! So there will be no photos or posts next week!
But,
Have a GREAT CHRISTMAS! I’ll be back in time for New Years!
