Aftermath of just another tropical storm

MacRae's

Terry took a ride yesterday morning in the Jeep.  Just to see what he could see.

Oh, you do know that we had our first tropical storm of the season, right?

Someone named him Colin.  Because we need a name for our storms.  Like calling them our besties.  Oh yeah, me and Colin, this is what Colin handed us.

This lot has been empty for about a year. New neighbors? Surprise! Tropical Storm!

And we lost a large limb out of my favorite tree. The grandkids have recently started calling it the fairy tree. Cause why wouldn’t fairies want to live in my favorite tree?

Anyhow, we are okay. Cause our house is high and we keep our trees trimmed.  And we’ve been through this many times over the past 13 years in Homosassa and even more times when living in the Tampa Bay area since 1982.

Another lesson that the realtors don’t tell you when you are looking on the coast for your dream house!

Farewell Colin!

Friday Meanderings

Friday Meanderings

Having a 5-year-old in the house for a week has REALLY messed up my orderly life. (Just kidding, my life is anything but orderly!)

Sorry about not posting this week.  We were busy and went lots of places but never found time to write or edit photos.

Hopefully next week!  I think Pipety Piper, Terry and I are finally on a routine. (Today I finally convinced Piper that Grandma really does need a 20-minute nap every afternoon!)

We went to the Memorial Service at the Old Homosassa Veteran’s monument on Monday.  Piper LOVED the singer, Sophie Noel.  She was so excited that I took a picture of her.  “Now we can find her, Grandma!”

Other than the Memorial service, we’ve hit all the local kid-friendly touristy spots.  And went swimming at Michelle’s house.

Pool Day with Piper

Did some fishing.

Worked on new blocks for the quilts I have in progress.

And had fun in sprinklers just about every afternoon.  (Can’t wait to get June’s waterbill!)

Friday Meanderings

So that’s been my life this week!

Next week is the “Meet and Greet” with Senators Dean and Simpson at 5 pm on Monday at the Civic Club. (Piper will not be attending! She is not into politics!)

Next weekend — June 11 and 12 is the Cobia and Big Fish Tournament at MacRae’s in Homosassa.  The Old Homosassa Heritage Council have raffle tickets for this year’s golf cart.

The Freedom Fireworks is coming up at the end of the month as well as scallop season.  That’s when all HELL breaks loose in Old Homosassa.    Terry and I enjoy spending a bit of time on Saturday mornings during this period watching the fights at the county boat ramp.  Yes, local fun!

Have a great weekend!

FRIDAY!

I GOTTA WRITE SOMETHING CLEVER!

Sheesh.  Not feeling very clever.

But I’ll try anyhow, let’s talk about Spring in the waters of Mason Creek.

Had an alligator a couple weeks ago.  Only time we get them is in the Spring when they are very confused. Because it’s mating season.

Four in 13 years.

Told our “weekend” neighbors since their little granddaughter was playing in the canal.   And they laughed.  And that small child continued playing in the canal. (Besides having a predator in the water, do they know that we are not on a sewage system and 75% of the homes do not have updated septic tanks?)

And yesterday I snapped these photos of manatees.

I like to call it Manatee Love.  Think Marvin Gaye.  But no music.

The public perception of a manatee is this slow moving water mammal munching on sea grass.

Not during Manatee Love season.  They make some waves!

Anyhow….

I’m headed to Minneapolis today.  Picking up granddaughter Piper.  Be prepared for my daily photo in Project 365 to be a 5-year-old.

Important stuff coming up.

Memorial Day.  1:00.  At the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial.  We will be there.  If you want to chat, we are the slightly older tall couple with the very pretty 5-year-old granddaughter.  And we might try to sell you a raffle ticket for a golf cart.  To restore the Old Homosassa Water Tower.

“Meet and Greet” at the Homosassa Civic Club at 5 pm on June 6.  Meet your Florida senators, Dean and Simpson.  I’m on the committee.  Committee of three.  I’ll be there.  I’m a hostess.  Terry is a bartender. Fun.

Cobia and Big Fish Tournament on June 11 – 12.  Oh, yeah.  Me and the husband and adorable granddaughter will be there.

July 9th, Mullet toss at Old Mill Tavern.  All money goes to the Homosassa Elementary School.  Sheesh.  Are you tired of hearing opportunities to meet us?

Speaking of Old Mill Tavern.  Had lunch there yesterday.  Didn’t take any photos because we’ve been there a thousand times.  And then I checked my blog and realized that I have NEVER even dedicated a post about them. The food is good. The servers are great.  Drinks are excellent. The owners, John and Shelly, support our community.  Terry recommends the wings. You can just order the drummies.  And the handmade French Fries are wonderful.

Okay.

Have a great weekend.
