The LAST Friday of September

Peeps. Not a lot going on here in Old Homosassa.

Had some meetings.

Went to the park a few nights.

Jessica MacRae is planning a Halloween Party at the Homosassa Civic Club. For the kids. October 24th from 4 – 8. All you locals–part of the event is “Trunk or Treat”. Bring your treats to give out to the kids. There will be music, crafts, and a movie. Fun for all. Masks and all the appropriate protective gear will be worn. We will be having an event every month since we are not having the after-school enrichment program until January. Or at least until I can walk on two legs and deal with children running around. With face masks.

I have 10 days stuck on crutches/walker. Putting weight on that left knee just to test it for the real walk. Yikes. The weather is wonderful and I just want to be out in my yard with my flowers…and weeds.

Three months. Disabled. I’m kinda sorry I didn’t get the handicapped sticker for the Jeep so I could park a little bit closer to Publix. But, in reality. Terry is doing the driving and shopping. I just sit in the car.

Anyhow….

Oh M Gee! So much going on!

Captain William Toney had his amazing and awesome Homosassa Fishing 101 last night. Full house as usual.

The “Book, Line, and Thinker” started this week with the Lecanto Primary. Gotta give a big shout out to Captain Mike Baize and his brother Captain Juin Baize. Great people that want to give kids great experiences. The kids go out with fishing captains in the morning then walk to the Homosassa Civic Club and have lunch. Then they have learning experiences at several stations in the civic club and the learning center.

Okay. These kids are walking from the county boat ramp to the Homosassa Civic Club for lunch. We have NO SIDEWALKS between those destinations.

People we need to FIX THIS! Talk is that the entire “Book, Line, and Thinker” program is expanding to all the county schools. Oh M Gee! Someone’s next project! Sorry peeps. I need someone to take this one on.

In case you don’t remember. Several years ago, the sidewalks in our community were presented by JJ Kenney. Commissioner at the time. I went to one of his townhall meetings and he said that these sidewalks would let the kids get to the library. Not happening because there are NO sidewalks on the road that the library is on. Ha! That was 7 years ago. Still no sidewalks to our beautiful library.

Okay. I’m not one that says ” HEY LOOK AT ME” but. The original sidewalk proposal was to take down a LOT of our beautiful trees that form the canopy over Yulee drive. I really wanted these sidewalks but when I looked at the first engineering plan my heart sunk. I said to Terry. This can’t happen. And we started a protest and now we have these awesome sidewalks. Which are used every day. And we have our beautiful live oaks. Right? One of my friends recently said that on her way to work every morning she saw a group of walkers on our sidewalks. And recently they are runners. HOW COOL IS THAT!

And we are letting kids walk down a very busy road. Seriously. This is a safety issue. I need some peeps to look into this. O M Gee. Another project that needs to be taken on! Just throwing that out there…..anyone else want to change our wee world?

The Homosassa kids are scheduled for February 18th, 19th, and 20th. There will be pics!

Okay peeps. We have to focus on all the GREAT local stuff. We are doing GREAT things. Look away from all the national stuff. Because it is rude and ugly and we are not that. The only thing we can change is right here. RIGHT NOW! Today I spent with many women that were excited about creating toiletry bags. It was very cool. Then I was blessed to spend a few hours with our piano students that get lessons for free. Moments that give joy. That’s what we have to focus on. Joy.

And now. Here are some pics from my hood.

Have a great weekend and think about stepping up and changing our community for the good! Our voices are very small on the national, state, and even the county level. But right here. In Homosassa. Our voices and actions are very loud. We can make a change.

It’s Friday!

Hope you have fun plans for the weekend! We are going to the Suitcase Party in Inverness. This will be our fourth time. The proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Citrus County. Fun and for a good cause!

Speaking of proceeds, all the money raised at the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival goes back to the community. Because of the festival, the Homosassa Civic Club is able to support many beneficial programs. One of my favorites is the Girl Scouts. We have a troop that meets in the Old Homosassa Learning Center every Thursday. Several months ago the leader asked if they could have a camp out on the festival grounds behind the civic club on October 12th. Of course! A few other troops joined the fun and there were over 60 girls that had a great time! Terry set up the giant movie screen and projector. We stopped by the next morning to put the equipment away and heard that they watched three movies and there was very little sleep!

The “Homosassa Morning Bikers” have been riding pretty consistently for the past few months. Taking advantage of our beautiful new sidewalk. Terry and I joined them on Wednesday for an almost 15 mile ride. The group rides every morning except on Sunday at 8:30. There is always a picture snapped–whether there’s only one that gets out on the trail or 15.

Terry, always the rebel, NO HELMET!

I haven’t been home much lately–the learning center and planning the festival takes up a lot of my time. But I did get a couple of good snaps.

The weather is pretty close to perfect now. Get out there this weekend and enjoy!
