Friday Meanderings

scary tote

It’s Friday already!  It’s been a busy week. Which is okay ’cause I like busy.

To all my “friends” on Facebook, I was asked to make a page for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.  I’m not a FB expert and sometimes it perplexes me, but I did it.  So I invited all of my local friends.  Local as in Citrus and Hernando counties.  And if you didn’t get an invite and you live local, then you’re not my FB friend.  What’s up with that?

Speaking of the Festival, we are making all kinds of strides forward.  Almost everyone in a leadership position is new but all of the former chair people are hanging in as mentors and helping us out.  We are learning, learning, learning.  I’m not anything, just a worker bee.  Oh yeah, and I do all the webstuff.  So if you have any comments about the website, www.homosassaseafoodfestival.org, or the Facebook page, let me know.  I’m open to positive suggestions.  Don’t give me any of that negative stuff!

Speaking of web stuff, I’m putting all of my DIY over on my other site.  I know you miss learning about easy peasy pillows and totes.  Still running the giveaway.  So far, I’ve put these two bags and tutorials up….

And here’s a sneak peak at the fabric I’m using for the tote for this coming Tuesday!

You KNOW you want that tote! (Michelle)

And you can WIN it!  Enter the giveaway by commenting on Tuesday’s post and you are in on the totally random raffle! Although I gotta say there is one person (and only one) that has commented every week.  She’ll win for persistence if nothing else!

So what’s going on this week????

We are attending the Save Our Water Week dinner tomorrow night.  Haven’t done this before.  Not sure if I can walk in something other than flip-flops on my feet but I’m looking forward to dressing up.  Almost like wearing a Halloween costume. (I’ll have my flip-flops tucked into my tote, for sure)

There will be a bunch of water-related activities in Citrus County next week.  I’m hoping to go to one or two. And I’ll be bringing my water-proof camera so you’ll get to see some pics!  Almost like you’re there.  Well, if you actually want to be there, go to Citrus 20/20, check it out and make reservations.

Saturday is the Homosassa River Raft Race.  The Old Homosassa Heritage Council will have a booth at MacRae’s.  Come on out and get your t-shirt and a raffle ticket for your chance to win a golf cart.  Woo-Hoo!  All the donations go to restoring the Old Homosassa Water Tower.

Sarasota Slim is playing at 3 pm.  Definitely the best band that comes to MacRae’s.

Wow!  So much going on!

And here’s your pic of the week of our soon to be newly-weds!  How cute are they?  OMG!  Looking forward to the wedding! FIVE WEEKS!

Kathryn and Darin

Have a great weekend!

Friday Meanderings

Happy Friday!

We’ve been to a few meetings this week and there’s more next week.  I coerced most of the attendees  of the Old Homosassa Heritage Council meeting to pose for a photo afterwards.  (A few snuck out without my permission!)  Thought we could use it in the newspaper.

And Clyde gave bunny ears.

Old Homosassa Heritage Council

It’s actually kind of funny.  But I don’t think the newspaper is gonna want it!

I’ve been following the Yulee Drive sidewalk story since back in July 2014.  There was supposed to be a final plan in the Fall of 2015 with construction starting in 2016.  Well, that’s what I thought.  I emailed the county officials and received this response from Walt Eastmond, Transportation Project Manager:

Good afternoon Kathy – 100% plans have been submitted to FDOT for review and approval. Through that review process a few minor areas of wetland impacts within the road right of way were identified. The project consultant has already addressed the impacts with the Water Management District (WMD) and the WMD has already approved the impacts as they are deminimis. However, the Army Corp has a few questions that the consultant is now addressing.

As plans are now complete and we have an accurate project cost estimate we approached FDOT for programming construction funding. Currently federal funding is scheduled for 2017.

Please let me know if you have any other questions

Disappointing response.

Today’s the anniversary of 9/11 and Terry and I are planning to go to the tribute at the Valerie Theatre this afternoon.  Since I’ve recently been introduced to the renovated venue, I’d like to check out any displays they have in the future.  Inverness is really turning their downtown into a destination. They have a new motto “Small Town Done Right”.  Pretty cool.

I’ve got a little fashion statement to make.  You all know how fashionable I am.  Here in Homosassa, we consider jeans as being dressed up.  Yes, it’s flip flops, t-shirts and shorts the rest of the time.  But I still look at the online catalogs and I noted that high-waisted jeans with flared legs are back in style.

And I want to know why we had to get rid of our “mom jeans”?  We’d all be ready for this “new” look!

mom jeans

noun

informal

women’s jeans of a style regarded as unfashionable or unflattering.”just because you’re 40+, it doesn’t mean you have to start walking around in mom jeans”

These are “Mother Hustler Fray Jeans” from Anthropologie.

And from J.Crew we have “Maguire High Waisted Flare Jeans”

It’s just a matter of time before the fashionistas dictate that jeans with pleats are the way to go!

Six more weeks until Darin and Kathryn’s wedding.  There’s a “happy hour” the evening before.  Dress code is jeans.  Think I know what I’ll be wearing!

Have a great weekend!

Terry and I attended the planning board’s meeting for the helipad yesterday.  (I posted about it a few weeks ago.) There were many passionate voices that spoke against the approval.  Most of the issues presented were about safety, noise, environment, and the wildlife.

We lost.

Mr. Hi Sierra got approval for his helipad from the planning board. But the Florida Department of Transportation has already issued Mr. Sierra a “cease and desist” for landing the helicopter on his property.  It might be awhile before he actually gets to land on his helipad.

Here’s a pic of the property on Mason Creek. It’s a beautiful 15 acre parcel with a scenic view of the Chaz Wildlife Refuge. The helipad will be right in front of the blue sign.

In other news….

Yesterday’s DIY post was my last.  No more sewing, quilting, painting, building, or organizing on this website.  I’m still doing all of those projects but I don’t think the DIY weekly post really fits on “Just a Slice of Life in Perfect”, anymore.  Everything else will still be here.  Lots of local issues, restaurant reviews, photos, and meandering.

The sewing, quilting, and other assorted DIY projects will be on my site, Designs by KTGreen

And to entice you to actually go to Designs by KTGreen, I’m doing a giveaway.  I’ll be posting a tutorial for the next five Tuesdays with instructions on how to make five different totes.  At the end of the series, I’ll be giving one tote away.   The randomly chosen winner will get to pick which tote.

To be eligible to win, all you have to do is enter a comment.

You can comment every Tuesday during the series. So you actually have six chances to win (I started the contest this past Tuesday) and the comments will stay open for seven days.  So far, I’ve had one comment.  If you decide to enter, you have a pretty good chance of winning!

You can comment anything you would like to say.  But be nice–my feelings are hurt easily.

Next week I’ll tell you how to make the easy-peasy tote.  It’s REALLY EASY and anyone can make it.

As the Tuesdays go by, the tote will be a bit more difficult.  The final tutorial on October 6th will be a bag with pockets and lining. It will be very very nice.  (That’s the one you will probably want to win.) I’ll randomly pick a winner from the six weeks of comments on the following Monday, October 10th and I’ll post the winner’s name on Tuesday, October 11th.

And what’s going on in Citrus County?

Now that it’s getting cooler there are many more options! (That’s a joke–it’s not getting cooler)

Old Homosassa Heritage Council meeting is on the 9th at 5:30 at the Homosassa Civic Club.

The Homosassa Civic Club is meeting for the first time since June on the 14th at 7:00.

Save our Water week kicks off on September 18th with a dinner.  $35 a plate.

The rest of the week there will be several water-related activities.  Clean ups, a thank-you luncheon for the volunteers, kayak and boat tours–every day something scheduled.

September 19th is the Homosassa Raft Race.

Moon over the Mounds returns to Crystal River Archaeological State Park on September 25th at 8 pm.

Diva Night is at the Plantation on October 10th.

And of course, the biggest and best event of all–the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival is November 14th and 15th.

Oh wait, the biggest and best event coming up is Darin and Kathryn’s wedding.  SEVEN WEEKS!

A little drive to Tampa

Have a great weekend!
