Spring Cleaning

The live oaks in our yard drop there leaves in very early spring then follow that with “bloom” which is a brown flower kind of thing that falls everywhere and fills up the gutters.  And then there’s pollen that turns everything green and a bit of mildew thrown in here and there.  As soon as the bloom is over, we start scrubbing and pressure washing everything outside. Along with pulling weeds that are loving all the rain and sunshine we’ve had. So that’s what we’ve been doing during this beautiful spring week.  But we’re just about done.

We did get out one morning to go kayaking right out our back door with a group of neighbors.  Next week we’re back to our regular adventures–maybe I’ll have something to write about for the Chronicle!

In my garden

Last Monday I was whining about all the rain.  But look at how happy my gardens are now!

Yesterday Today and Tomorrow
This is a “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” bloom. I’ve seen these growing wild. But this is the first bloom I’ve had in years.
Tomato blossom
Looks like I’ll have some tomatoes for the squirrels to steal!
Impatiens
Impatiens. I can not find these to buy anywhere. Used to be everyone sold them. These have reseeded from years past but I’d like to get more!
Ferns
I’m putting ferns in shady corners.
Day Lillies
I moved these day lilies a couple of years ago and they finally bloomed!
Bromeliad
This is a bromeliad bloom. A strange variety
Begonia
Devil Wing Begonia. Or is this an angel wing? Begonia for sure!
Banana tree
I still don’t have bananas on my banana tree. Just this weird bloom on two of them now.

Love Spring!
