Monday Musings

HOmosassa Besties

Missed Friday Meanderings.  Decided to put up Cookie Day Pics instead.

Still having issues with the website. But it is limping along.

I’m not starting a regular Monday Musings.  Just thought it was appropriate on this post.

Today is Maggie’s 17th birthday.  Happy Birthday Poochie Pie!  Still walking every morning and sometimes running!

If you are my FB friend, you know I’ve been in Mt. Dora with a bunch of Old Homosassa buds. We started planning this trip way back last summer.  I was delighted to be included.

Here’s the bunch of us….

HOmosassa Besties

From left to right we have me, ruth, michelle, connie, sue, melinda and rosey.

And I’m thinking about how we all met up.

Connie and Rosey I’ve know for several years just cause we hang out in the same places in Old Homosassa. Ruth lost her husband a few years ago and recently started volunteering in our community groups and I met her at one of the community parties.  Sue I just met this summer–at the same party.  She moved in permanently last week but has been a weekend home owner for many years.  Michelle is part of the group bringing down the CR nuclear power plant and a neighbor along with her wife Renee that couldn’t make the trip.  Melinda moved here six years ago from Mt. Dora when her mom and dad that already lived here wanted her to move to be closer because dad was on his last days. Dad is still with us, as is Melinda.  Met her in the past year, too.

A very eclectic group brought together just because we live in Old Homosassa. And we all like to have fun.  Oh, one more constant, we all go to the Old Mill Tavern!

Very cool.

I’ve recently been into making selfie group shots.  Not just that one above and the cookie day happy people.  I’ve known a lot of these women for over 25 years.

Cookie Day 2016

Here’s Thanksgiving with the family.

And breakfast, just because it was breakfast with the fam!

Oh.  And here’s Jes and me.

Kristin Wigg

Yes.  She has tiny hands.  That’s why I never had her get piano lessons.

Okay.  Where am I going with all this? I think I had a message that I was going to put here when I first started writing this but now I’m clueless.

Oh wait.  I remember.  It’s that in all these photos, I have friends and family.  New friends, old friends, and family.  And.  All important in so many ways to me.  I am so thankful to having all of you.

Especially thankful to my husband who also loves all the friends and family and pushes me to do more and inspires me with his leadership in the community.

I’m going to keep on posting when I get a chance.  And continue meandering about nothing in particular on Fridays.  And putting up photos on Project 365 when I actually take a photo and the website will let me post.

Oh wait! There’s more!

I have a lot of stuff going on.  Headed to North Dakota in a few weeks so I can take part in the protests.  Just kidding.  Going there to celebrate Daughter-In-Law Lauri’s 40th birthday.  (By the way Jes and daughter-in-law Karen are having their 40th bdays this year, too.  Hope I get invited to their BIG BIRTHDAY PARTIES!)

There’s a holiday in there, too.

And I’m taking office in January.  Very excited about all that.  I’m the HONORABLE KATHY GREEN now.  I have to pay my $10 to the state to actually make that official!  Just got the bill this weekend.  Is that too funny?

And it’s Monday and we have a BIG vote at the Homosassa Civic Club and I hope everyone reading this that is a member makes it to the meeting.

And I hope to continue making new friends, hanging with the old friends, and spending special moments with the family.

Old Homosassa Veterans Day Ceremony

Here in little Old Homosassa, we have a beautiful Veterans Memorial.  Right on Yulee Drive.  I can’t remember when it was built, but it wasn’t that long ago.  I was living here.  But that’s when I was living my hermit life.  No volunteering back then.  Yes, the good old days.

While Veterans Day is actually the 11th, the vendors start rolling into Old Homosassa that morning for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.  The organizers wisely moved the ceremony to Saturday, the 5th.  It was really a nice event.

Terry belongs to the veterans group that puts the event together.  He and a few other volunteers get the podium and chairs for the audience out of the civic club and then put the road blocks in place.  Other members put together the agenda.

Anyone in Citrus County that is a veteran can have a marker here.  If a purple heart veteran, the marker is free.

Shirley and Terry
That’s Terry and his mom Shirley.  She just moved to Sunflower Springs, an assisted living facility in Homosassa, a few weeks ago. Their bus brought her to the ceremony.  By the way, she just turned 92!
marker
They just inscribed this marker for Terry last week.  Guess we are staying in Homosassa for awhile!
Sophie Noel
There were several speakers. That’s Sophie Noel singing. the National Anthem. Back at the Memorial Day service granddaughter Piper was here and was mesmerized by Sophie and her singing.
Old Homosassa
There was a pretty big audience for little Old Homosassa.
Homosassa Elementary Chorus.
The highlight was the Homosassa Elementary Chorus. They sang their hearts out. So cute.
flyer
After their performance they handed out flyers that they had colored to all of the veterans. This is the one they gave Terry.
flags
Then they put flags on the memorial.  If you want to add a flag, they will be available at the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial booth.
taps
The ceremony closed with Taps.

It was a lovely and stirring event on a beautiful autumn morning.

Friday Meanderings

And the beat goes on….

My apologies.

I thought I’d get to put some “photo of the day” here all week from Project 365 but it didn’t happen.  My life isn’t my own.  Just spent 2 hours on the phone with a reporter.  And that’s the way every day is. Perhaps not a reporter but some kind of flux.

Except not really.

We are trying to make a difference but perhaps we are WAY OVER OUR HEADS!

Election

Homosassa Civic Club turmoil

Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival

Tent City in Old Homosassa

Along with my typical every day disarray.

Reporter says the article will be in the paper on Friday.

Could be ugly.

But we will go on.

Karma.  Will. Bite. Some. Ass.

Something fun I did get to do this week is go to Crystal River and get a tour of the Kings Bay Restoration Project by Gator Dredging.  They are cleaning up the canals.  Have several more years before it’s done but they are making a difference.

The tour was requested by the “Access to the River” Committee.  We need to get this done on the Homosassa River but it takes a lot of money.  Crystal River has a lot of rich donars and a lot of funding from the state.

Here’s some photos in no particular order.2016_11_01swiftmudsm 2016_11_01safetyfirstsm 2016_11_01lyngbyasm 2016_11_01kingsbayrestorationproject1sm 2016_11_01groupphoto2sm 2016_11_01groupphoto1sm 2016_11_01dredge2sm 2016_11_01dredge1sm 2016_11_01demo2sm 2016_11_01demo1sm

So. Are you thinking.  All those old people.  What can they do?

Good People doing Good Things.  Put that in your calendar or diary or whatever you mark stuff down in.

We still got at least 20 years.  We will do A LOT!

It was a really great tour.  And then several us went to Crackers to have dinner. Because I am all about fun!

I got a Grouper Reuben.  No photo but it had sauerkraut on it.  (in case you don’t know, some places use coleslaw–what??? but I still eat them.  Cause I still love fish and I still love a reuben and I gained 3POUNDS from that bit of late night dining!)

This weekend is jammed packed with festivals!  The Blues and BBQ will be at the Homosassa Civic Club festival grounds.  Stone Crab Jam is in Crystal River.  Inverness is having a fine arts event.  So much to do!

Next week is the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.  Nothing else is going on anywhere in the county.  Or perhaps anywhere in the state.  Be there!  Not too late to volunteer!

Have a great weekend!

Kathy
