We made it through our first Tropical Storm of the season unscathed–other than numerous small branches blown out of the trees. The water was high but no storm surge. My favorite storm warning came from one of the Tampa stations–stay in an inside room with a bicycle helmet on for the entire storm. Just in case.
Another one was to stay off of the roads but sand for sand bags was available and you had to fill the bags yourself.
Now on to more important news, this is the first big weekend of the Summer in Old Homosassa. It’s the 29th Annual Cobia Tournament! The weather is supposed to clear up so there will be lots of fun Saturday morning watching the boats head out with all the captains and anglers excited for the competition.
June 29th is our annual fireworks show. It’s quite a nice display for our little community plus music and plenty of deep fried food available at our local restaurants.
Scalloping starts July 1st. Every motel room, rental house, and restaurant will be full–as well as the waterways.
Then July 6th is the 2nd annual Mullet Toss at Old Mill Tavern.
More fun to come!
