I wasn’t sure what this following tree was. It had the leaves and characteristics of the mimosa tree but the pods were huge and the flowers more like orchids than purple puffs.
Had to do some research and now I think it’s a Royal Poinciana which is from the mimosa family.
I had a mimosa tree at another house in Florida and it’s a very DIRTY tree. The flowers are pretty but it leaves ugly small brown pods on the ground.
These pods are huge and were also dead all over the ground. But the flowers are exquisite.
On our recent Texas visit, we were able to visit both waterfronts in Houston. The seawater of Galveston and the freshwater of Lake Conroe. This time we were headed to visit old friends Cheryl and John for a few days of boating, eating, and drinking way too much!
They have had a sweet little poodle named Lexie.
Lexie
And surprised us with Rascal, a two-year-old poodle, that they just rescued. He’s still a little shy but a totally sweet boy.
Rascal
They met me every morning at the bottom of the staircase with yips and yaps. No sneaking around in this house!
Ferocious guard dogs that could quite possibly lick you to death.
The weather was a little sketchy but we still managed to go out on the boat a few times.
Lake Conroe
Lexie is the captain of the ship,
and the pool.
Rascal’s a little timid on the water.
The whole gang
We went to a brewery for a beer tour. Missed the tour but we did get free beer!
Stacks and Stacks of beer
All guarded with this sign
After eating way too much and over imbibing, I could barely get my jeans zipped up for the flight home on Sunday. But we made it and picked up our own little Maggie, who was kind of happy to see us.
Home again, home again.
We had such a great time. One of our best trips ever!
