Friday Meanderings

Yikes!  Another crazy busy but fun week!

And tomorrow is the first day of December.  Time to get the house decorated, the baking started, and the Christmas music playing!

Probably ought to do some shopping, too!  Speaking of shopping, did you do the whole Black Friday fun stuff?  Okay.  Black Friday is the opposite of fun to me.

But I couldn’t resist checking things out on the Internet.  The packages are still arriving.  (All for me.  I haven’t done any Christmas Shopping yet!  I like to save that for the last possible moment.  I work better under pressure!)

So what’s going on????

Had the “Volunteer Appreciation Dinner” for the festival volunteers on Tuesday. Over 70 volunteers at the festival.  Can not do the festival without them!

I have been fortunate enough to see Terry do many talks at conferences before he retired. He was a very charismatic speaker.  (I know, charismatic no longer has a good connotation.) He always knew the subject, the audience, and made it interesting. Even though he was usually talking about concrete or concrete trucks.  (Warning, don’t ever call concrete CEMENT)

And he was that guy at the dinner.  Just a really brief talk but it started out the party out on a great note.

Then Connie took the stage.  Definitely another charismatic person.

We had some gifts to give out and she volunteered to do the giveaway.  She asked for volunteers to give out the goodies and Paul Ritli jumped up.  They were a good team.

That’s the one I wanted! But gotta say that Sheila deserved it!
That’s Lynn. Paul’s wife. Saying I got bbq spices. And handing them back to him. What? You’re the chef. What? Okay. They are the folks behind our favorite breakfast and lunch spot, 2 Pops Shop!

Almost everyone won something.  I won a keychain.  Terry got a fishing t-shirt. (Terry usually gives whatever he wins back to the pot to be regifted but I had threatened him that he best not do that again.  And hey, that fishing t-shirt was just my size!!!!!!)

Food was great. Company was great. GREAT DINNER!!!!!

Then Wednesday the Homosassa Ukers got together.  19 Ukers.  OMG!  Our little ukulele group started out with friends Connie and Laurel and I wanting to learn ukulele.  Seems that there are a LOT of people in our little community that want to learn how to play ukulele!

Once again I want to shout out to our volunteers for the Uke group.  Anita is teaching the beginners.  Torrey is the Homosassa Ukers leader.  Anita also teaches the kids ukulele in the after-school music enrichment program.  And there is one volunteer per child. That’s what you need to keep 6 to 9 year olds to hold still and learn.  Anita also feeds them before we start.  And during.  And after.  This week it was French fries.  Anita is amazing!

And then today was the Sew Cool! Workshop. Okay.  You might not thinking that sewing is fun.  But with us it is.

I’ve got to know so many wonderful people through all these activities.

And that’s what it is all about.  The Homosassa Civic Club is turning into a true community center.  All these people are coming together and making a community.

It’s so cool for me to be part of this change!

Have a GREAT weekend!

Kathy

Friday Meanderings

Went to the Suitcase Party last Friday evening.  And it was GREAT!  So much fun.  The party is held at the Inverness Airport Hanger.  We had a designated driver.  He dropped us off at the front gate.  Picked us up when the party was over.  He then took our 15 passenger van through the drive up window at McDonalds where he ordered happy meals for us to share!

This guy, who shall remain nameless because I don’t want anyone stealing him for next year’s party, does not drink.  So he did all that fun stuff while totally sober.

Tomorrow from 4 to 8 is the Halloween Party for the kids at the Old Homosassa Learning Center.  Sponsored by the Homosassa Civic Club, Jessica MacRae Evans, Sami Strait and the Key Club students from Crystal River High and Middle School will be running the party!  These are the same people that hold the highly popular summer camp and will be doing the Fun Zone at the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.

Blues & BBQ next weekend.  Get your tickets now at the Museum Cafe for $20.  They will be $25 at the gate on the day of the event.

Then it’s the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival!  The committee has been working like crazy!  Artists, crafters, and food vendors are sold out.  Which means there will be NEW vendors!

It’s almost Halloween!  What are you dressing up as???? Only have a couple days to get ready!

Have a great weekend!

Kathy

Friday Meanderings

Good Morning!  Or Afternoon! Or Evening!  Whenever you might chance to glance at my meanderings!

If you are a regular follower, you might note that I posted on Wednesday, too!  Whaaat!  I know, so unusual.  Once upon a time I posted here four days a week and my niece Michelle posted a fifth day.  But things change.  Mostly what changed was that I started my other website/blog, DesignsbyKTGreen.com and that took a LOT more time than I originally thought it would.

And then I started doing the websites for the Homosassa Seafood Festival, the Old Homosassa Heritage Council, and the Homosassa Civic Club along with their facebook pages.

Yikes.  In way over my head!

And then Diane Bedard asked me to write about local happenings on NatureCoaster.com.  How could I say no???

I originally intended to post the same story on both NatureCoaster.com and here.  But then forgot all about it! I was going through my notes while waiting for a hurricane and said to myself “self, why haven’t you been doing that?”  So now if I post there, I will also post here.  It won’t be exactly the same since this is MY blog and I try to be respectful on NatureCoaster.com.

Okay.  And back to my meanderings…..

Headed to the SUITCASE PARTY tonight.  This is TOO much fun.  We have rented a van and taking ten people.  Yes, there is a designated driver!  And he won’t even be tempted to drink–because he doesn’t!

If you happen to be lucky enough to be my friend on FB, you know that last weekend we went to Tampa. It was a double celebration.  Terry’s birthday and our anniversary.  We lived in Tampa for many years and downtown was dead after 5 pm on Friday evening.  Not so now!  Something going on every minute.  Met up with the Tampa kids for drinks and then dinner.

Gin Joint
Our old friend Roger is now at the Gin Joint!

Birthday dinner at Jacksons on Harbor Island with Andy, Karen, Darin, Terry and me.  Incidentally, Jacksons was where Karen and Andy first met.  And now the two of them have five kids!!!!!

And some cool snaps from our visit…

And on to local news…..

The Homosassa Civic Club is revving up for the 44th Annual Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival on November 10th and 11th. Terry and I have been involved in the festival for four years now.  Terry’s been chairman for three.  Every year it gets a little better and a lot more organized.  The festival is already sold out on artists, crafters, and food vendors!  I turned my entertainment chairperson job over to a PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN who is doing it as a volunteer.  We will have the best music program ever!

(maybe next year I can get a professional web design person to do the web site as a volunteer!)

Three years ago I was approached by a long time Homosassa resident that complained that the festival was no longer a family event.  And from that conversation we started the “kid zone”.  Every year it has gotten a little bit bigger and a little bit better.  Jessica MacRae and Sami Strait—teachers in the Citrus County School District and Key Club advisors—are the chairpeople for the kid zone.  Most of the booths and activities are free—sponsored by the Homosassa Civic Club.  There will be a few paid booths.  One will be face painting by the Lecanto High School honor students.  And they will be charging $3 – $5 and the money goes back to their program. Win-Win!

If you don’t like crowds or looking for parking, come Sunday morning—the 11th.  This is the slowest time of the festival.  The artists, crafters and food vendors will be there, along with entertainment, but people seem to like to sleep in on Sunday.  Or maybe they are going to church.  Who knows???

Have a great weekend!  Terry tells me that a cool front is coming in soon.

Ha!
