Kendall and Maggie

Busy week, right?

This is how I feel about now.

Kendall and Maggie

Kendall started texting me a couple of weeks ago about “when can I come up and it better be RIGHT NOW!.” Yeah, I think it’s really cool that the 8-year old is texting me.

So Kendall and Addison have been here for a few days.

The above pic was after an hour boat ride to the Springs, two hours of swimming, an hour back, showers to get rid of “Lu Poo” (if you live in Homosassa you know what I mean) and then a big crash. (Maggie did not go with us but she spent all that time worrying about us being out on the boat without her.)

Kendall, Maggie, me and grandpa all took a very long nap.  Addison toughed it out. And was still up at 10 pm. (Where does she get the energy????? and she must not really be related to the rest of us!)

Going to show you a video next week of Addison’s encounter with a manatee.  As soon as I figure out how to put the video on here.  Very cool!

Anyhow, what’s going on….

The Mullet Toss.  Saturday. All the money goes to the kids.  Terry and I are working (sweating) at the raffle table.

Monday.  The Meet and Greet.  (Postponed from June because of a tropical storm) The newspaper has advertised TWICE that there will be “light appetizers, wine, beer, and soda.”  Sheesh.  How did that make it into the paper? But we should have a good turnout! Get there early if you want any of the free food and drinks cause I only bought enough for 100!!!!!!!

I’m sure that you will hear ALL about it next week!

If a hurricane doesn’t hit us before then. (Would that not be a message from a higher power?)

Sheesh!

Have a great weekend!

Monarch butterfly

Happy day after Cinco de Mayo!

So did you go out and party yesterday?

We had a Dos de Mayo party at the Civic Club on Monday.  Before the monthly meeting.  The party was a LOT better than the meeting.

But parties always are!

Last weekend we were honored to be part of the wedding vow renewal of the Watsons.  All five Watsons took part in the ceremony.

Very cool.

The Watson Five. Big new musical group. Do a little pop. A little alt rock. Wear matching outfits. But they are all about the tunes!

Watsons

Also want to talk about my butterflies.

Yes, they are MY butterflies.

Okay.  They aren’t really my butterflies cause I don’t have a leash on them and I’m not keeping them in a pen.

But…..

I have never had so many monarch butterflies in my yard.

Seriously.  I’ve had milkweed growing and blooming the 13 years that I’ve lived here.  I think I had ONE monarch in the entire year of 2015.

But now I have to say that there are about six out there having a butterfly party.  In the milkweed. On the peace lilies.  On any blooming flower I’ve got.  Hanging out in the grass.

Monarch butterfly

Love it.

But it’s kind of like the first time I saw a manatee in the canal.  I called everyone I knew and left a message. (Yeah, I had to leave a message.  Guess they all had caller ID and didn’t want to talk to me!  “yeah, she’s just going to talk about manatees, just let her leave a message!”)

I was so excited about the manatee.

But now it’s like, oh yeah, there’s a manatee in the canal.  Again. Snooze time. Seriously. That’s how much we have taken our water mammals for granted!

Then I was really excited about the first monarch this year and took a couple hundred photos.

But now I’m like “six monarchs.  three in the grass. why are they in the grass?  Think I need a nap now!”

So what are your plans for the weekend?  It’s Mother’s Day so Terry’s Mom is coming here.  We are going to “Vintage on the 5th”.  My favorite restaurant in the area.

Memorial Day is coming up.

I’m going to Minneapolis.  Cause it’s like the center of patriotic activities.

Just kidding.  I’m flying there to see the ND family and I’m stealing away Piper, the 5-year-old, and she’s coming to spend a few weeks with the grandparents.

Terry’s staying here to take care of the DOG!

Okay, this is important….

There will be a ceremony at the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial at 1:00 on Memorial Day.

Piper and I should be there.

Stop by and say hi!

Have a great weekend!

Mermaid Weekend

For 20 years, the “mermaids” have been traveling to Cedar Key just to hang out.  And it’s the same weekend as the Cedar Key Arts Festival.

And most of them really are mermaids–as in former performers at the Weeki Wachee Springs Park Mermaid Show.

I’m running names through my head right now.  Just to count how many.  Vera, Sarah, Catherine, Bonnie, Sue, Helene, Anne, Cheryl, Jean, Yvonne, Donna, Barbara, Rachel, Pam, Ty, Michelle, and Me.

Oh yeah, there was also a poodle.

Once a mermaid, always a mermaid!

(Not me, I’m just a friend of the mermaids.  Not even a mermaid wannabe. Do you have any idea what those mermaids have to go through?)

My friends Donna and Yvonne have been going on this weekend adventure for about 17 years. I’m guessing that I’ve probably been there six or seven times.  My niece Michelle has been there at least three times. We don’t go every year.

Michelle and I. Ready to go!

We stay at Mermaid Landings.

Not a fancy-schmancy place…..

Mermaids Landing

Mermaids Landing
The building with the screened room is where Michelle and I stayed. We call it the “hospitality suite” because we are the hostesses with the mostestesssssss.

Mermaids Landing is on the market and the owner actually did a bit of fixing up.  Like the cabinet doors did not fall off of their hinges on this visit.  And all the water heaters were working!

Here’s a whole family of mermaids!
Osprey
Here’s a picture of a fish in a tree. Oh, wait. There’s an Osprey there, too! This tree was right beside my cottage.

Our view of low tide from the Honeymoon cottage. During high tide that boat is entirely covered.

Since we were there anyway, and I am helping out with the 2016 Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival, I went to the “Old Florida Celebration of the Arts” to check out the scene.

There were many unique artists.  I talked to several artists and handed out applications for the Homosassa Festival.

I always ask if I can take photos.  One artist said no.  I had to ask twice because I didn’t believe my ears.  Really?

Oh well!

Very jealous of the space Cedar Key has for their entertainment.

What a great gazebo for the band!

And the audience gets to rest under this tent or on blankets on the lawn.

There’s even a beach!

It was a GREAT weekend!
