Friday Meanderings

I didn’t post on my sewing blog (DesignsbyKTGreen.com) this week because we went on a little vacation.

Off to visit our DC family.

Andrew, Terry, Me, Jes, Pam, and Murphy

Last time we visited was in March–the week before the quarantine and at that time were very worried about the corona virus since we were flying. This time we drove.

A whole different set of concerns. Like staying in a hotel? Where to eat? Where are the restrooms?

But we made it through. Gone a little more than a week. Wiped EVERYTHING down with disinfecting wipes. Lots of hand washing and Purell. Wore our face masks. Social Distanced.

Still feel kind of like we could have been contaminated during the drive!

But it was wonderful seeing the family. The weather was great and we spent lots of time walking, working in the house, and enjoying the back yard.

Home. Probably not going on another vacation for awhile. Sad to say.

Opened the Old Homosassa Learning Center this week. This was also done with lots of trepidation. I had been texted by most of the instructors that they wanted to get started again but I was very concerned about a spike in the virus. We are all working together to make it work. I went to yoga yesterday. Michele, the instructor, has asked everyone to wear face masks. She also only wants 8 people in the class. While our main room is quite large, 8 mats socially distanced fills up the space. She decided to cancel her other class, Body Sculpting, because she doesn’t think it can be done with face masks. I concur!

It was nice getting back to yoga. I’ve been working out regularly but being in a class is a whole different situation. (I actually have to do the whole class!I can’t get up and check my texts!) And it wasn’t that difficult to do yoga with the face mask on.

The Zumba and Belly Dance instructors are not asking for face masks. It would be pretty much impossible to do either with the safety coverings. They are starting up after July 4th and if things don’t work out, we will quickly change the schedule.

The Homosassa Ukers also start back up on July 1st. How do we sing with face masks? This may or may not happen! Our Sew Cool! coach wants to wait until the end of July. But I miss my stitching buddies!

Anyhow. Had no trouble driving up and back. But this sign greeted us as soon as we crossed the Florida border on our way home!

It took us about 30 minutes to get through that “check point”. Not sure how it all works but when we got to the security official at our “Florida” lane he asked “where you coming from?” DC. Sent us through. (In hind sight I probably should have said Georgia!)

There was another conga line that headed in a different direction. Guessing that they were from New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. There was no way to get back out to I-10 and go north so I’m guessing they were temperature checked and told to quarantine for two weeks.

Which is amusing since it is Florida that is spiking.

Covid-19 cases have almost doubled in our little county since Florida started opening back up. 219 yesterday according to the local paper. While that’s not a lot, it is still almost DOUBLED! Old Homosassa is having the ONLY fireworks display in the county this weekend. It’s a ton of fun. Great music. Food. An amazing display for such a tiny spot in the world.

I won’t be there.

Many of my friends say it’s a “hoax”. Only the flu. Not an issue. Do not wear face masks.

Sorry. I get a vaccine every year because I do NOT want the flu. (People DIE from the flu!) I’m wearing my face mask. I will not be in the crowd on Saturday. Nor in any crowds during the upcoming scallop season. I might miss out on some fun. But…..

Okay.

Here’s the

Dog of the Week

Murphy again! Besides being absolutely adorable, he’s the only dog I have seen in the past week.

Murphy and Me! I might have been trying to give the cutie a kiss and he wanted no part of it!

We had such a great visit with Jessica, Andrew, Pam, and Murphy. I miss my North Dakota kids SO MUCH! We have talked about making that drive. We did every year after our sweet poochie pie Maggie couldn’t fly anymore. That’s one of the many reasons I didn’t run for the Board of Commissioners for the Homosassa Special Water District this year. Between the monthly civic club meetings and the HSWD meetings, it didn’t leave a lot of time to drive.

Anyhow. I am still holding out hope that I can get to North Dakota.

Have a great weekend. Stay safe.

Kathy
