It’s September! And Labor Day is on Monday. Our last Patriotic Summer Holiday for the year.
But more importantly, Labor Day starts our REAL hurricane season.
Speaking of weather, we had SO much rain this week. I was stuck in the house from Friday through Monday. Finally got out on Tuesday. Most people can go out when it rains but I have some concerns of wading through the puddles with my crutches. Anyhow….
Have to say that dragging my butt around on my walker has really developed my upper body strength. I now have calluses on my palms. And they match the calluses on my fingertips from playing the banjo! Proud of both. One of my sweet little ukulele students had her mom send me this picture from her reading book. Said it reminded her of Miss Kathy and her banjo.
Those foxes are so sad! The little girl’s mom told me at the end of the reader the banjo was fixed but they were playing it upside down! Oh. Those. Foxes. What do they know?
So I didn’t get out to our local restaurants. We did do a drive through at Wendy’s and was surprised to see the workers in masks. What!!!!
Speaking of COVID-19, Publix pulled all their directional arrows up! What!!!! Not that I’ve been in a grocery store since July, but I hear we now have independence on picking which way to go in the bread aisle.
Wednesday we went to the Old Homosassa Heritage Park and Working Waterfront. Here’s a pic. Nice view of the river and a nice breeze coming off of the water.
Went to a park meeting after that visit. In case you didn’t hear, Steve Minguy received the Pillar Award from the Chamber of Commerce. Steve and Cyndi didn’t go to the banquet because they are social distancing. So they received their award at the meeting. (Because our chamber representative is also on the park committee.)
Steve and Cyndi are in every community group in Homosassa. Members of the civic club, the Old Homosassa Heritage Council, and the Homosassa River Alliance. Also active volunteers with the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival. Steve is on the board of the river alliance and the civic club. Both started the Homosassa River Restoration Project. Busy people. Well deserving of this award.
Thursday, Captains Mike and Juin Baize (brothers) invited all the civic club members to lunch they made from their new smoker boat! Mike claims that he is not starting a catering business but will be using if for fund-raising events. By the way, two out of the five people in this pic are not civic club members! Just local guys that followed their noses! A lot of members did stop by and pick up to go boxes. First time I have seen many of the members since we haven’t had any meetings since March!
But that is changing. There will be a September meeting on the 14th at 6 pm. No potluck this time. The meeting will be at the Old Homosassa Heritage Park and Working Waterfront. Bring chairs! (and mosquito spray!)
Since I didn’t get out much, I didn’t get a new dog of the week. But I’m bringing Murphy back as dog of the week since his mom sent me this photo of him with a tote that I made her.
DOG OF THE WEEK
If the sun continues to shine, we will be out and about. Looking forward to seeing people. Six feet apart. Have a great holiday weekend!
