Gil and Wendy Watson sent me an email last week about their first “Oil Painting Workshop” being conducted by Keith Martin Johns at their gallery. They thought I might be interested in getting photos for the blog.
What a great idea! I love it when I get emails with post suggestions. Especially when it’s about something right here in the community. And promoting the Arts!
So Terry and I ventured down on Saturday morning. Stopping by Watson’s Art Gallery is always fun. Looking at art, chatting with the Watsons and their boys, plus I never know who I might run into.
Like Christine, one of our newer Homosassa residents that has jumped right into being a member of both the Homosassa Civic Club and the Old Homosassa Heritage Council plus has volunteered for the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival!
So back to the workshop.
I love the arts but I seriously know nothing about oil painting. Keith Martin Johns was conducting the workshop. He told me he was taking “academics and giving it a contemporary approach”. During my short visit the students were working on a “Venetian Color Wash”.
I took a lot of photos and didn’t get anyone’s names–other than the artist Keith Martin Johns. Obviously I’m a blogger–not a reporter.
Mr. Johns lives in Graceville, Florida and has several works in the gallery. Here’s just a few available for your home.
The students were obviously immersed in their work but one broke away long enough to tell me that this was her first attempt at oil painting. Totally amazing.
This was the first workshop at Watson’s Art Gallery but they plan to hold more. Looking forward to checking out the future offerings!
