Another Friday!

On March 12th, the Old Homosassa Learning Center held a meeting to plan an open house that we wanted to hold in May. On March 13th, the State of Florida started shutting down. Think that we will be holding our open house in the Fall!

We have slowly been updating the building’s interior. New floors and paint was installed in the main room last summer. We’ve been working on the kitchen and it is just about done. Just some minor painting needs to be completed. We also set up a music room for our acoustic instruments. Not quite ready to do a reveal on that, but, since the open house is pushed back, I thought I’d show you what the kitchen looks like now.

Thanks to generous donations of money and labor, we were able to install new cabinets and paint. I wish I had a before photo but it was just so UGLY I couldn’t bring myself to take a picture! This is a happy space now!

Since I can’t share with you where to go and what to do in the community–cause there is nothing to do or anywhere to go–I’m just going to post photos. This might turn into a photo blog!

Friday
Rose Bud
African Iris
Walking Iris. These only bloom for a day and this is the first time I’ve actually been home to witness so many in bloom at once! They are small.
but beautiful!
This jasmine is just starting to bloom. Once upon a time I had a trellis of jasmine. The plants got so huge and spreading that they pulled the whole fence down. Now this solitary plant crawls up one of the beautiful Live Oak trees. Think the tree will be sturdier than the fence!

DOG OF THE WEEK!

SQUIRREL OF THE WEEK

Hope you have a great safe weekend!

Friday Meanderings

Second Friday of our “New Normal”.

We rode our bikes with the Homosassa Bikers last Friday and will probably ride again today. Had some people critiquing this pic that was on FB. We are doing the Jimmy Buffet handshake–the fin. The elbow bump is too close plus people sneeze into that elbow. Not everyone was 6 feet apart. Nope. The married couples were together. The others were distanced. Exercising is kind of important.

I’m all about the whole social distancing. But. Really upset that they have closed ALL the state parks. Even the bike trail that runs almost the whole county–the Withlacoochee Trail. Do they really think that helps children and parents that are stuck at home all day? No swings. No teeter tooters. No space to run. Not everyone has a back yard.

Terry and I rode our bikes down the Salt Marsh Trail on Sunday. It’s probably closed now. But here’s some pics from the tower.

I don’t see dogs very often anymore. Maybe I’m not looking for them but here is….

DOG OF THE WEEK

COOPER! Miniature Australian Sheppard

But I see lots of squirrels. Every day. Every minute that I’m outside actually!

SQUIRREL OF THE WEEK

Stay safe. Stay home. Check out the words to “Bad Moon Rising” by CCR. We are living it!

The First Friday of our New Normal

Got so much done this week. Replaced the rotted out trellis. Weeded. Fertilized. Planted. I have way too many garden beds! Except now I have abundant amounts of time to garden. And sew. And read. And cook. And quilt. And take photos!

That’s what I did before Terry retired. Then we became a team to make our community a better place. Still that team but we are self- isolating as much as possible. Loving returning to my old hermit life style but concerned about my sweet kids that came to the learning center every week.

Here’s the Homosassa Junior Ukers with one grandma! Two of the kids are missing.

Homosassa Junior Ukers

Our last public outing. 2020 Shrimpapoolza parade. A lot of the “at risk” ukers didn’t show up. So I gave ukuleles to the grandmas that brought the junior ukers and said pretend to play and sing!

It was fun.

Homosassa Ukers

I was seeing butterflies yesterday. That’s one joy of actually being home and spending quality time right there. Monarch and Gulf Fritillary. Some little yellow flittering things and this little moth…

The others did not stay long enough for pics.

But I have other snaps…

woodpecker
angel
ibis

And some thoughts…

And for the weekend? Stay home. Have a romantic dinner with your special person that you cook yourself.

And for the locals….Gotta say Publix doesn’t have much food but Shelley’s Seafood has lots of fresh seafood. Two Pops is open. Go to Old Mill and get pickup. Support our local shops.

What a change in one week.
