Friday Meanderings

taking the oath

Well, it’s Friday again.

And you want to know what’s going in Homosassa, right?  NO?  Oh come on, you know you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t!

My big project has been the Learning Center.  We are tutoring.  Monday through Wednesday.  3:30 – 5:30.

Got a lot of volunteers.  Need more.  If you are in the area, we would love to have you. But we will background check you! I’ve done it.  It’s painless!

Think about it.  We can change the face of Homosassa.  The kid that I’m tutoring is in the 3rd grade and readily told me that his teacher said he only reads at the first grade level.

Sheesh.  That is so wrong.  But I remember having a young son and I was told that he was way behind in reading. And we went to the library.  And read a lot of books. And he learned how to read. And is quite a wonderful person. That can read.  And uses really big words.

So.  My new friend and I will be reading.  I’m thinking comic books to start with because he really likes superheros. Right?  Then we will get into bigger stories.  He is really quite an adorable child that wants to learn and fit in.

We’ve got other kids showing up at the Learning Center that think it’s fun time.  Not learning time.

Nope.  It’s the “Learning Center”. If you don’t want to learn.  You can just go home.

I don’t need any teenage attitude.  But.  Having said that.  There’s a few other volunteers that just say she needs attention.  Okay with me.

I’m sticking with the 3rd grader!

But after some intense learning, we are sneaking some fun in.  Think “Project Runway”. There will be some sewing machines and totes of fabric stuff on the premises.

And we have guitars!  What???? A kind person donated four guitars.   I play the banjo so I have no clue on guitars but I do have a snark and tried to tune them.  Strings were breaking. Some parts were missing. Since I love the music all of those will be fixed.  And tuned.  Already talked to my friends at StrumHollow in Spring Hill to get some guidance on repair. All we need is a teacher. For the kids and adults!    Anyone????

Besides all that. I took my oath on Monday.  I’m now an official commissioner.  My name will soon be on the door.

This was a good week but there might be bad stuff coming.

And that’s how it is!

taking the oath
Not a great snap, but a great moment in my life!

Friday Meanderings

rose

So much has gone on this week.

So much.

Some good.  Lots of bad.

I mean.  really.  how many mean FB posts can you deal with before your soul is crushed?????

Here’s a rose….

rose

Thought I would put up a bunch of snaps this week.

And posts.

Stuff happens!

But here’s a caterpillar that was on the milkweed on Thursday.

caterpillar

And here’s an article from the Citrus Chronicle that you may or may not want to read….

2017_01_12article

Life goes on.

And here’s another foolish caterpillar that will most likely never make it to butterfly stage.

caterpillar
don’t they know it’s too cold to actually be a butterfly?

So there are some facebook posts from Gary ESN Bartell and Joanne Bartell and the Homosassa Learning Center.  Which, because they choose to share with the world, you too can enjoy the dirt thrown at really GOOD people.

About Terry being a spineless coward.  And the owner of High Octane, a very popular biker bar, saying that “Green is the new black and blue”.

And that’s not even the worst of it.  Because if you actually post and disagree with their position, you will be told what a fool you are.

Oh, that’s the clean version.

We tell all of our friends DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF THOSE FACEBOOK POSTS.  Because they will eat you up, make very nasty comments about what a horrible person you are, and then spit you out.

Despite the fact that you are an amazing person and really believe you are helping your community.

Life goes on.

Just watched Joe Biden and Obama giving him the Medal of Honor.  So inspiring. So tear jerking.

I may not have agreed with all the presidents that have served in my lifetime–but they were all good people.  Not bullies that went to twitter or FB to intimidate their opponents.

I believe the life of politeness is over.  I’m really an optimistic person.  But not so much right now.

So sad.  Perhaps this was just a really bad long sad trying week.

Supposed to be another article out tomorrow (which would be today since I write this on Thursday evening) in the paper. Talked to the reporter for a really long time.

Probably not good.

So sad.

Sadder are these caterpillars that will not make it through any cold winter.  But still they toil.

caterpillar

And so will we.  Even though we might not make it through the winter either.

But we continue despite all that stuff, cause we are going to make our little part of the world just a little bit better.  And have a lot of amazing people that are on board with us.

Friday Meanderings

Okay, if you are one of my local readers, get your calendars out!

Big meeting in Inverness today.  Our “Access to the River” project is on the agenda for the Citrus County Legislative Delegation.  3:00.  We are getting closer to getting a public park on the river! The “Homosassa River Restoration Project” will be represented, too.  We’ve decided to wear blue to show our unity and the delegates will know who we are!

Saturday and Sunday there is a craft show at the Villages.  Supposed to be a good show.  We’ll be there to check out the talent if the weather is good!

Speaking of weather, it’s been lovely here.  I even mowed the yard today! Who does that in January? (Okay, I actually just mulched up the leaves since there hasn’t been any yard growth) We’re supposed to be getting some cold weather today but nothing like the rest of the country.

And back to the calendar….a really exciting meeting will be on Monday night at 7 pm at the Homosassa Civic Club.  Yes, it’s the monthly meeting of HCC.  Terry will be sworn in as president and some of our disgruntled members (yeah, there’s maybe 5 of them) have hinted that controversy will ensue!  Fun. Fun. Fun.

Tuesday morning at 9 am there will be a Board of County Commissioner meeting regarding the funding of the boat ramp on the barge canal.  At least one of our new commissioners is questioning putting the boat ramp there.  The funding and the boat ramp could be moved to the Homosassa River.  Whether you are for or against this idea, you should attend the meeting.

There’s more meetings.  But you don’t really want to go to those!

Have a great weekend!  And stay warm!

Kathy
