Monarch butterfly

Happy day after Cinco de Mayo!

So did you go out and party yesterday?

We had a Dos de Mayo party at the Civic Club on Monday.  Before the monthly meeting.  The party was a LOT better than the meeting.

But parties always are!

Last weekend we were honored to be part of the wedding vow renewal of the Watsons.  All five Watsons took part in the ceremony.

Very cool.

The Watson Five. Big new musical group. Do a little pop. A little alt rock. Wear matching outfits. But they are all about the tunes!

Also want to talk about my butterflies.

Yes, they are MY butterflies.

Okay.  They aren’t really my butterflies cause I don’t have a leash on them and I’m not keeping them in a pen.

But…..

I have never had so many monarch butterflies in my yard.

Seriously.  I’ve had milkweed growing and blooming the 13 years that I’ve lived here.  I think I had ONE monarch in the entire year of 2015.

But now I have to say that there are about six out there having a butterfly party.  In the milkweed. On the peace lilies.  On any blooming flower I’ve got.  Hanging out in the grass.

Love it.

But it’s kind of like the first time I saw a manatee in the canal.  I called everyone I knew and left a message. (Yeah, I had to leave a message.  Guess they all had caller ID and didn’t want to talk to me!  “yeah, she’s just going to talk about manatees, just let her leave a message!”)

I was so excited about the manatee.

But now it’s like, oh yeah, there’s a manatee in the canal.  Again. Snooze time. Seriously. That’s how much we have taken our water mammals for granted!

Then I was really excited about the first monarch this year and took a couple hundred photos.

But now I’m like “six monarchs.  three in the grass. why are they in the grass?  Think I need a nap now!”

So what are your plans for the weekend?  It’s Mother’s Day so Terry’s Mom is coming here.  We are going to “Vintage on the 5th”.  My favorite restaurant in the area.

Memorial Day is coming up.

I’m going to Minneapolis.  Cause it’s like the center of patriotic activities.

Just kidding.  I’m flying there to see the ND family and I’m stealing away Piper, the 5-year-old, and she’s coming to spend a few weeks with the grandparents.

Terry’s staying here to take care of the DOG!

Okay, this is important….

There will be a ceremony at the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial at 1:00 on Memorial Day.

Piper and I should be there.

Stop by and say hi!

Have a great weekend!

squirrelie

You know how I’m always going on about those damn squirrels?

Well, on this website, we have a banjo-playing damn squirrel!

Perfect.

If you don’t want to actually go to the website, squirrelie was trying out many instruments and gave up the banjo almost immediately.  Only shows that squirrels do not always make good decisions.

Damn Squirrel.

Last night, Terry and I met a friend at the NEW Papa Joe’s in Brooksville.  You may remember it burnt down a couple years ago and a new beautiful and modern restaurant rose from the ashes.

I didn’t take any photos on this visit.

Papa Joe's
This is a photo of the bar that I took last year when I had lunch there. Looks the same.

Dinner was WONDERFUL!  I had eggplant parmigiana.  Took most of it home with me.  So Good.  If you ever get a chance to eat there–take it! GO!  It’s outside of Brooksville, almost to I-75.  Take 50 and turn on Fl-41.  Right there. Yum!

So what’s going on?

Can you believe that Sunday is MAY?????

The Homosassa Civic Club is having their monthly meeting on Monday.  Potluck starts at 6 pm.  We are doing a Cinco de Mayo theme.  Wear your sombrero!  Also honoring five of our local students with scholarships.

Put on your calendar for June 6th, Senator Charlie Dean will be at the Civic Club for a “meet and greet” at 5 pm. Rumours have it that our new Senator Simpson will also be there.

What else?

The weather’s great!  Get out there and enjoy it!

Have a great weekend!

Dinner on the patio

I’ve been gone a lot over the past six weeks–three long weekends out-of-town.

I’m really behind in everything I’m supposed to be doing.  But I’m back and plan to get caught up!

phew….

So where was I on this last trip?

I hate having my kids living so far away from me.  We don’t get to see them nearly enough, but at least they live in fun places.

We were just in DC for 5 days to visit Jessica and Andrew.  They live in the Cleveland Park area which is a quick walk to the National Zoo.  (no, I’m not talking about congress or the presidential race)

We went there a couple times.  Just so I could get some photos of the pandas.

Papa Bear, Tian Tian, did his best to give me butt poses.

Finally got this pic of him.  Still not a great photo.

Bao Bao
Here’s the best snap I could get of the three-year-old Bao Bao.  The newest panda baby, Bei Bei was no where in sight on either of our visits.

So I gave up on the pandas.

This elephant was much more cooperative.  Because he’s kind of big and has no where to hide!

And the Bison

On the first visit they were both lying down with the faces in the other direction!

We went walking through the trails in Rock Creek Park every morning.

Which was a good thing because we did a lot of eating and drinking!

We had a private tour of the Smithsonian Natural History Arachnid department by the curator, Hannah Wood.  Her mom is a mermaid!  Pays to know someone!

Took a touristy afternoon to see a few sites.

It was a great visit!.  We won’t be taking any mini-vacas for awhile so I’ll get back into my old routine!

Have a great weekend!  Maybe I’ll see you out and about!
