Friday Meanderings

Wood Storks

It’s Friday!

Already.  Next thing you know, it’ll be Christmas again.

Or maybe not.

I put this photo up for my “pic of the day” yesterday.  I had to repeat it here for those of you that don’t look at the pic of the day.  (what, you don’t look at my pic of the day?)

Wood Storks

I saw these guys just hanging out there.  Catching the rays.  The wood storks are only here in the winter.  I think they go to South Carolina and visit my friend Terry in the summer.  We have so many cool birds that visit my back yard this time of the year.

The Old Homosassa Heritage Council put a sign up this week at the Water Tower to show the progress we are making on hitting our $60,000 goal to restore and maintain it.

sign

Sign looks really little.  But it’s actually quite BIG!

Okay.  I was reading the paper yesterday (which I do everyday) and just had to share the following stories from right here in Citrus County according to the Citrus County Chronicle…….

A parent took his child to Rock Crusher Elementary School and his gun fell out of a hole in his pocket and another parent found it and a custodian shot it because he thought it was a toy.

How many things are wrong in that scenario?

A volunteer with the Citrus County Sheriff’s department was terminated because he was driving erratically and there was a bottle of vodka on the floor board.

Okay, I gotta fess up that being a volunteer for anything might require a little bit of alcohol but it might not be good driving drunk when the group you volunteer for is the Citrus County Sheriff’s department.

Just saying.

In the Sound Off section of the paper there’s been a lot of complaining about people picking and choosing and then changing out the eggs in the cartons in the grocery store.  Am I the only person that finds this hilarious?  All I can think is that whoever is writing these sound off’s needs to be a volunteer with some community group so they can use their whining for a constructive cause. But maybe not the Sheriff’s department.

What’s going on this weekend?

Annual fish fry by the Homosassa Guides Association is Sunday at MacRae’s in Homosassa.  Proceeds go to a local charity and the Homosassa Elementary School.

Healthy Living Show at the Crystal River Mall on Saturday.

Ozello’s Heatin’ Up with Crafts & Chili is on Saturday.

Stomping in the Swamp Bluegrass is on Saturday.   It’s somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.  And it’s free!

Guess where I’m going????  No, I’m not taking my happy banjo.

Have a Great Weekend!

Sheesh….

Where have I been?

Not that long ago I posted five days a week.

And this week all I posted was blah, blah, blah, blah….

And I have totally ignored my DIY website.

Sheesh….

Ready for my excuse???

I’ve been learning new software.  Well, stuff I kind of knew and then decided to make the big step and upgrade and really learn it.

I’ve been wanting to do this for quite some time but couldn’t justify the time or expense but I had the opportunity to work on an exciting new project and just bit the bullet.

And I gotta say, I can only sit so many hours a day in front of my computer(s). Or tablet. Or smarty-pants phone.

So I’ve been using those geeky hours to learn software and working on a really fun event.

But, I’ll be back.

Soon.

And after I use up my computer hours, I still get to have fun and I’m wondering…

What’s going on this weekend?

I don’t even know!  I haven’t read anything in the Chronicle about stuff going on.  And it’s going to be a lovely weekend.  The Rain and the Cold is OVER!  Well, for this weekend at least.

The Greens are going to the Gasparilla Pirate Invasion tomorrow!  ( I’m not missing any fun social events just to learn software!)  One of our kids lives on Davis Island and he’s invited us to an Invasion Party!  Arrrrrrgh!  There will be photos next week!

Arrrrrrrrgh!

Hope you have a great weekend, too!

Access to the River

Access to the River

Probably ought to save this for my Friday Meanderings, but I really wanted to share the good news from the “Access to the River” committee.

Yesterday we went in front of the Board of County Commissioners in Inverness to make a presentation to ask for help to get two parks on the Homosassa River.

Who is WE?  Reps from all the Homosassa community groups plus concerned residents.

If you are my friend on FB or a member of either the Old Homosassa Heritage Council or the Homosassa Civic Club, you got my broadcast.  (I heard that recipients forwarded it to clubs in Sugarmill Woods plus shared it on FB.)  We had way over 100 concerned citizens at the meeting. That’s a lot of people from our little community!

Our speaking reps gave impassioned speeches.  When the public was invited to speak all were positive except for the crazy old lady from Citrus Springs that complains at every board meeting.

And the commissioners unanimously pledged their support.  Which means we will get guidance and assistance from county staff to pursue Amendment One money, grants, and all kinds of other funds to make this a reality.  Because we are just amateurs and really need professional assistance.

Both Senator Dean and Simpson are on our side.

Getting the community together was our first step.  The Commissioners referred to this as a true grassroots movement.  Getting their approval was the second.

On to the future!
