And we had another meeting…..

And we had another meeting.....

Yeah.  That’s what we do.

And we love it!  Because we think we are making a difference for our little community.

This time, Terry volunteered to be on the board for the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial.

Which is such a great group.  There is one memorial for the purple heart veterans in Citrus County.  And another memorial for veterans.  For $100 and if you are an American veteran living in Citrus County, you can have your marker there. The money for those markers helps pay for the free markers for the purple heart veterans.

Plus they sell flags for $20 at a lot of local venues and make a bit of money from that which goes towards the memorial.

Pretty Cool.

I’m not part of the group but I went along with Terry.

Cause I didn’t have another meeting.

And the meeting was at Margarita Breeze.

The headquarters of American Patriotism and great food.

I figured I could somehow squeeze dinner into that meeting.

Just in case you don’t already know, Margarita Breeze is the reincarnation of Margarita Grill.  Just not on the Homosassa River.  It’s on Kings Bay.  Way north of the old location.

And we had another meeting.....

So.

Of course I ordered the Grouper Reuben because I’m on a personal quest for the BEST Grouper Reuben.

And, there was coleslaw on it.

And we had another meeting.....

Really?

A Reuben should have sauerkraut.

But the Reuben was great.  Even without sauerkraut.  But it could have been better.  With sauerkraut.

Terry had fish and chips.

Look at this view!

And we had another meeting.....

If you stop by Margarita Grill, you can get an American flag for $20.  There’s other patriotic stuff, too.  The money goes towards the memorial.

Do it!

Mermaid Weekend

For 20 years, the “mermaids” have been traveling to Cedar Key just to hang out.  And it’s the same weekend as the Cedar Key Arts Festival.

And most of them really are mermaids–as in former performers at the Weeki Wachee Springs Park Mermaid Show.

I’m running names through my head right now.  Just to count how many.  Vera, Sarah, Catherine, Bonnie, Sue, Helene, Anne, Cheryl, Jean, Yvonne, Donna, Barbara, Rachel, Pam, Ty, Michelle, and Me.

Oh yeah, there was also a poodle.

Once a mermaid, always a mermaid!

(Not me, I’m just a friend of the mermaids.  Not even a mermaid wannabe. Do you have any idea what those mermaids have to go through?)

My friends Donna and Yvonne have been going on this weekend adventure for about 17 years. I’m guessing that I’ve probably been there six or seven times.  My niece Michelle has been there at least three times. We don’t go every year.

Michelle and I. Ready to go!

We stay at Mermaid Landings.

Not a fancy-schmancy place…..

Mermaids Landing

Mermaids Landing
The building with the screened room is where Michelle and I stayed. We call it the “hospitality suite” because we are the hostesses with the mostestesssssss.

Mermaids Landing is on the market and the owner actually did a bit of fixing up.  Like the cabinet doors did not fall off of their hinges on this visit.  And all the water heaters were working!

Here’s a picture of a fish in a tree. Oh, wait. There’s an Osprey there, too! This tree was right beside my cottage.

Our view of low tide from the Honeymoon cottage. During high tide that boat is entirely covered.

Since we were there anyway, and I am helping out with the 2016 Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival, I went to the “Old Florida Celebration of the Arts” to check out the scene.

There were many unique artists.  I talked to several artists and handed out applications for the Homosassa Festival.

I always ask if I can take photos.  One artist said no.  I had to ask twice because I didn’t believe my ears.  Really?

Oh well!

Very jealous of the space Cedar Key has for their entertainment.

What a great gazebo for the band!

There’s even a beach!

It was a GREAT weekend!

Alpaca Magic Open House

Alpaca Magic

Terry and I visited Alpaca Magic USA this weekend during their open house.  We’ve been there a few other times with our grandkids and they always love being up close and personal with any animal.

But the kiddos were out of town so it was just the two of us this time.  It’s amazing what you get to see when you’re not worried about small people poking where they shouldn’t and the resulting well-deserved kick.

I actually got to take a lot of really good photos.

This little alpaca was so cute.  But very shy.  I tried to get photos without scaring him.  It’s also difficult to get a good pic of an animal that’s black with dark eyes.  This was the best I got until….

This toddler boy and toddler alpaca were both equally curious about the other.

Best photo of my day.  And week.  hmmmmmm…..maybe best so far this year!Alpaca Magic

I wrote on Friday about the horrific attack on the alpacas by dogs a few weeks ago.  There’s now a security system installed which should alert them before something that awful happens again.

The alpacas were the main event, but there were also refreshments, a few vendors, a shop selling alpaca-related items, music, demos, and plants for sale.  (I bought lots of plants!)

Interesting yard art!

I loved meandering through all the garden “rooms” and taking home some ideas.

And there were Chickens! (nope, not taking home any chickens)

Alpaca Magic USA is a fun place to visit. And do take your children or grandchildren or borrow some from a friend. They’ll love it.

Open 7 days a week from 10 – 2.

Check it out!
