Friday Meanderings

Oh Jeeeeeeeze,

I really planned on posting at least three times this week.

Even took all the photos, had the posts in my head.

And then…..stuff happened.

STUFF ALWAYS HAPPENS! It happens to everyone.  You know?

Some good stuff.

Some bad stuff.

And I’m not going into details because it’s MY stuff.

“Homosassa Goes Hollywood” is on SATURDAY!  So excited.

Gotta say, DeeDee Pierce Wilcox is totally amazing.  She works a full time job and pulled this entire gala together.

All I had to do is make a little movie.  And do some shopping.

I’ve got the draft finished.  Going to test it tomorrow. On the big screen. Woohoo!  I’m going to Hollywood.  Okay. Not really.  But I am going to Inverness!

The tickets to the Red Carpet Premier have been sold out for a few weeks, but you can still attend the cocktail party at the Old Citrus County Courthouse in Inverness.  For free.  5:30.  Be there. I’ll buy you a drink.  Seriously.

And we’re having a Silent Auction.  You will not believe all the cool stuff that have been donated to this endeavor.  So much TOTALLY COOL STUFF!

Okay. Besides the “Homosassa Goes Hollywood” major major event.

We went to a few meetings this week.

The really important one was the “Access to the River” committee.  Our commissioner, Ron Kitchen, was there before the meeting even started. A politician early? What??? We didn’t even know he was coming. And Commissioner Kitchen listened and then gave us some advice as to how we should proceed.

Things are moving forward.

So what’s going on this weekend?

NOTHING except “HOMOSSASSA GOES HOLLYWOOD!”

Be there!

Have a great weekend!

I’m going to have a BUSY one!

Friday Meanderings

Shelley's Seafood

It’s Friday!

Yippee!

Long lunch!

Happy Hour!

Oh wait, I don’t have a job.  So every day should be long lunch, happy hour.

Except it’s not.

Cause we have meetings and stuff….which I’m going to skip right over. (But there’s a lot of them).

So what’s going on?

Sunday is a big day.  Friends of Chaz is having their annual meeting at 2 pm at the Methodist Church on Bradshaw.  This is always a good meeting with great speakers.

At 1 pm at the Shed, Under the Willow is playing.  If you didn’t hear them at the Homosassa Art, Crafts, and Seafood Festival, now’s your chance.  They are GREAT!  And they have a banjo! Need I say more?

banjo

We sold out all the tickets for “Homosassa Goes Hollywood”.  That is going to be a CRAZY fun evening.  Sorry to all of you that didn’t get your tickets.  But I did warn you!  150 tickets.  Gone in a heartbeat!

Homosassa Goes Hollywood

Now some serious stuff.

Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

Have you been to Old Homosassa?  Our sleepy little fishing village on the river?  Have you seen the kids jumping into the river from the boat dock?  That’s because we have NO public access to the river.  Except right there.

Locals and visitors sit there on the benches in front of MacRae’s Bait Shop and watch the water. Cause unless you have a boat, that’s as close as you are going to get.

Which is, of course, absolutely ridiculous.  And the “Access to the River’ Committee is trying to fix it.

Roger Cullen started emailing all those really important people in the county and state to buy some property on the river.  Also talked to really important local residents.  He brought in representatives from all of the local groups.  (Terry is the rep from the Civic Club and I’m the rep from the OHHC. Such a totally involved couple.)  We also have business owners that have places along the river that might be affected.Shelley's SeafoodWe are going for Amendment One money for two pieces of water-front property.  The idea is totally cool.

The first is a working waterfront park.  Those of you that go to Shelley’s Seafood for the best and freshest seafood anywhere (SERIOUSLY ANYWHERE–ITS RIGHT OFF OF THE BOAT) can continue buying there.  The Shrimp boats that dock there will continue heading out to the Gulf and returning. The house on the property will be turned into a museum dedicated to Old Homosassa, its history and heritage.

The second is a piece of property right behind the Old Homosassa Water Tower.  That will be a place for a boat ramp and all of the other fun things a park should have.  Especially for our local youth that have NO WHERE TO PLAY.

Sorry about all the shouting, but we really need these parks.  This isn’t the first time that the “locals” have tried to get access to the river but this is the first time that we have the “wind behind our backs”.

We are now to the point of meeting with the Board of County Commissioners for their approval. Florida Senator Charlie Dean is already on board.  Senator Dean wants to make his mark on the community before he retires this year.  And this will be it.

So now YOU need to support the effort. Commissioner Kitchen has told us that if you want to be noticed, you gotta make noise and you have to have a solution.

The meeting is on Tuesday, January 26th at 1 pm.  WE NEED EVERYONE IN HOMOSASSA TO BE THERE! Yeah, both sides of the river.  That will be our noise.

And we already have the solution and have presented it.

Let’s make history!

Have a great weekend.

And think about it!

Homosassa Goes Hollywood

Oh Jeeze Louize.

It’s already Friday.

I’ve been kind of stuck in my dark office and the week has flown by.  Working on stuff. Good stuff.

If you haven’t got your tickets for the “Homosassa Goes Hollywood”, it’s not too late!

Homosassa Goes Hollywood

This is going to be so much fun.  Cocktail Party. Silent Auction. Papparazzi. My super-duper video presentation.  Oh yeah, and the movie “Crosswinds” that was filmed right here in Old Homosassa way back in 1951.  I was not born yet but I’m pretty sure that Terry was maybe 4. He probably didn’t make the first Red Carpet Premier!  But we’ll be there for this one!

(Can’t believe that “An American in Paris” won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1951.)

So what else is going on?  How about those golf carts sharing the roads in Old Homosassa. Surprise to me, but some people are not happy about this big event.  Like “what’s going to happen if I get t-boned by a golf cart?” Hmmmmm.  Don’t have an answer to that one.

Golf carts have been here since we moved to Homosassa almost 13 years ago.  Several months ago an overly-ambitious deputy decided to give warnings to golf cart drivers that they weren’t legal. Which prompted local residents to start a petition drive which led to a safety study by the county which led to the approval of the golf carts sharing the road by the county commissioners. Democracy in action. This effort took MONTHS!  It was in the paper numerous times.  And now we are hearing that there’s a whole lot of people that aren’t happy about it.

We don’t have a golf cart.  But we supported the effort.  Time to move on.

Terry Green, Secretary of the Homosassa Civic Club, Recent Retiree, and my Husband is the new Chairperson of the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival.  Jeeze Louize.  Retirement is supposed to be easy.

Hope you have a great weekend!
