Friday Meanderings

Terry and I attended the planning board’s meeting for the helipad yesterday.  (I posted about it a few weeks ago.) There were many passionate voices that spoke against the approval.  Most of the issues presented were about safety, noise, environment, and the wildlife.

We lost.

Mr. Hi Sierra got approval for his helipad from the planning board. But the Florida Department of Transportation has already issued Mr. Sierra a “cease and desist” for landing the helicopter on his property.  It might be awhile before he actually gets to land on his helipad.

Here’s a pic of the property on Mason Creek. It’s a beautiful 15 acre parcel with a scenic view of the Chaz Wildlife Refuge. The helipad will be right in front of the blue sign.

In other news….

Yesterday’s DIY post was my last.  No more sewing, quilting, painting, building, or organizing on this website.  I’m still doing all of those projects but I don’t think the DIY weekly post really fits on “Just a Slice of Life in Perfect”, anymore.  Everything else will still be here.  Lots of local issues, restaurant reviews, photos, and meandering.

The sewing, quilting, and other assorted DIY projects will be on my site, Designs by KTGreen

And to entice you to actually go to Designs by KTGreen, I’m doing a giveaway.  I’ll be posting a tutorial for the next five Tuesdays with instructions on how to make five different totes.  At the end of the series, I’ll be giving one tote away.   The randomly chosen winner will get to pick which tote.

To be eligible to win, all you have to do is enter a comment.

You can comment every Tuesday during the series. So you actually have six chances to win (I started the contest this past Tuesday) and the comments will stay open for seven days.  So far, I’ve had one comment.  If you decide to enter, you have a pretty good chance of winning!

You can comment anything you would like to say.  But be nice–my feelings are hurt easily.

Next week I’ll tell you how to make the easy-peasy tote.  It’s REALLY EASY and anyone can make it.

As the Tuesdays go by, the tote will be a bit more difficult.  The final tutorial on October 6th will be a bag with pockets and lining. It will be very very nice.  (That’s the one you will probably want to win.) I’ll randomly pick a winner from the six weeks of comments on the following Monday, October 10th and I’ll post the winner’s name on Tuesday, October 11th.

And what’s going on in Citrus County?

Now that it’s getting cooler there are many more options! (That’s a joke–it’s not getting cooler)

Old Homosassa Heritage Council meeting is on the 9th at 5:30 at the Homosassa Civic Club.

The Homosassa Civic Club is meeting for the first time since June on the 14th at 7:00.

Save our Water week kicks off on September 18th with a dinner.  $35 a plate.

The rest of the week there will be several water-related activities.  Clean ups, a thank-you luncheon for the volunteers, kayak and boat tours–every day something scheduled.

September 19th is the Homosassa Raft Race.

Moon over the Mounds returns to Crystal River Archaeological State Park on September 25th at 8 pm.

Diva Night is at the Plantation on October 10th.

And of course, the biggest and best event of all–the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival is November 14th and 15th.

Oh wait, the biggest and best event coming up is Darin and Kathryn’s wedding.  SEVEN WEEKS!

A little drive to Tampa

Have a great weekend!

Another Visit to Watsons Art Gallery

Stopped in at Watson’s Art Gallery to see what we missed over the summer.

So much!

Got to see the NEW 2015 t-shirt art for the Homosassa Art, Craft and Seafood Festival created by Gil.

Is this amazing?????

I saw it on Watson’s Facebook page while I was out of town and was really excited about it.

Not only are we breaking precedent by revealing the art before the Festival, the shirts will be available for sale at Watson’s Art Gallery as soon as they arrive.  Which should be very soon! Yippee!

There seemed to be a lot more art at the gallery, too.  Such a wide variety!

The gallery had a “Wine and Paint” class last week but I missed it.  I signed up for the next one on September 25th.  Fun!

Cat Valentine was playing at the Gallery that evening so we stopped by to check out her music.

She was so good–playing everything from Fleetwood Mac to Black Keys–and a very fun person.  So I signed her up for 3 hours of entertainment at the Festival.  Another change–we’re having music both days.

Always love visiting the gallery!

Friday Meanderings

I’ve often commented that Old Homosassa is the perfect setting for little art shops and other fun stores.  We already have several–Watson’s Art Gallery, Riverworks, The Glass Garage, Pepper Creek Pottery, and River Safaris plus Cleo Lydy has the Lydy Art Gallery in her home.

We have a special opportunity right here in Old Homosassa this weekend.  Gil and Wendy Watson, artists and owners of the Watson Art Gallery are having an exhibition by Keith Johns Martin on Saturday, July 25th, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The featured artist will be showing several large scale original pieces and giclee prints at the gallery as well as painting on site.

I met Keith Johns Martin last month when he was holding an Oil Painting Workshop at the Watson Art Gallery & Studio.  Not only an incredible artist, but also a talented instructor.

After 5 pm they will be having a Cuban/Island style cookout by chef Bert Savell for $10 a plate and live music performed by Cat Valentine.

If you have any questions give Gil and Wendy a call at (352) 503-9709 or email them at gwwatsons@gmail.com

Sounds like fun!

Invitation to Watson’s Art Gallery

According to the Citrus Chronicle, Crystal River is back to planning their river walk that would connect downtown Crystal River on both sides of US 19 to the waterfront on King’s Bay. I’ve been reading about these plans since I’ve moved to Citrus County.  I would love to see this become reality.

That’s it for this week!

Have a great weekend!
