Friday Meanderings

It’s Friday!

Well, if you’ve been following along this week, you already know that I’ve got a stress fracture on my left foot and lovely new foot ware! Six weeks in a boot.

I moved my sewing room upstairs a few months ago.  (About the same time that I hurt my foot)

Seemed like a good idea at the time!

Staircase

But me and my boot eventually figured out how to get up that staircase.

Here’s my photo for “The Boot — Day 3!”

Me and my boot
Working on my next tote design! OMG! Need to put some polish on those toes!

I went into the Homosassa Special Water District to sign checks yesterday.  (That’s part of my elected official duties!) And when the office manager Theresa saw me and my boot and that black eye, she said “you got some ‘splaining to do”

See.  There are 5 commissioners.  To have official meetings there has to be 3 for a quorum.  This year has been hard on the board with me being the third commissioner to suffer injuries. So Theresa has some concerns!

But me and my boot will not be missing any meetings!

Speaking of the water district, Kimber is now taking payments.  You get lots of kisses first, though!

Kimber
Dog of the Week! Kimber says “I’ll take cash, check, or credit. But first I have to lick you a whole bunch!”

As promised last week I’m putting up more pics, here are some lovely photos of flowers in my yard.  In July.  We’ve had SO much rain that all of my plantings—while being wholly ignored this year—are still beautiful!

Okay.  Now it’s soapbox time!

Back to those Key Club Kids that are parking cars so they can raise money for conference which I talked about last Friday.

This is a very small community. People know people.  Things were said and then exaggerated and he said and she said and they said.

But it’s also a good community and differences were worked out.

Last Saturday the Key Club Kids and their two leaders along with a couple of Homosassa Civic Club members were out there parking trucks and trailers.  They have made enough money to send THREE KIDS TO CONFERENCE.

How cool is that???

Also want to add, this is not easy work.  Terry and I have done the parking duty.  It’s hot.  It’s humid.  There are a lot of people coming into our little community—last week the traffic was backed up a couple of miles from the boat ramp.  The visitors might be a wee bit cranky by the time they get their boats into the water. And they might want to take it out on those that provide parking.  For $10.  I’ve parked a few that said, Oh, I didn’t know I had to pay and then proceed to scrape change together.

Pleeeeease…..How much money did you already spend on all of your toys so you can have a fun day on the water?  I’m not even going there.

Off the soapbox. If you are coming to Old Homosassa to go scalloping.  Park at the Homosassa Civic Club.  Very cool kids that are spending their summer volunteering at the OHLC summer camp are doing the parking so they can go to conference.

Speaking of OHLC Summer Camp, there was a great article in the Citrus County Chronicle on Wednesday about the camp.  The camp has anywhere from 17 to 23 kids a day.  Totally FREE!! This week is cooking week.  Yesterday they made Chocolate dipped Peanut Butter Balls.  (Or as my besties call them—BUCKEYES!)

They’ve also decorated their sandwiches by painting bread with food coloring. Made Rice Krispie treats. Made bread dough that they are supposed to bake at home.  And they actually made BUTTER!

Okay.  We don’t have a working kitchen at the OHLC.  Just a fridge and microwave.  Sami Strait, this week’s coordinator, is a very clever woman!

Next week is science week!  Can’t wait to see what they stir up for that!

Oh.  And one more exciting announcement.  Zumba Gold will be starting at the OHLC on August 21st.  12:30 – 1:30.  You heard it here first!

Have a great weekend! (Terry, me and my boot are out looking for furniture.  Cause me and my boot are not hanging in the hot hot hot.)

Kathy
