It’s Day of the Dead!

I LOVE all the sugar skull stuff. So cool.

I’ve hand-embroidered a chambray shirt with a Sugar Skull on the back. I can only wear it ONE DAY A YEAR. Okay, in reality I usually wear it during the whole Halloween season but it’s been way too hot here in Homosassa to wear a long sleeved shirt. In the upper 80s low 90s everyday. But it’s supposed to be COOL today. 60 degrees this morning! Like a one day holiday Fall vacation. Riding my bike this morning so I’ll be wearing my shirt! (And maybe a sweatshirt under that!)

And if you also love sugar skull, you gotta watch Coco, the Pixar movie. Ideally with a small child. Granddaughter Piper and I watched it together last year at her insistence. She said that her mom cried when she watched it. I didn’t cry but it was very sweet!

So what else is going on?

Everything! OMG! This is that time of year where the weather is supposed to perfect and all the festivals take place. Right?

We will be going to the rescheduled Suitcase party tonight. We have a van of 15 with a DD.

Saturday morning is the Veterans Day ceremony at the Old Homosassa Veterans Memorial. The civic club sets up that event. Lots of speakers. The Homosassa Elementary School Chorus–under the direction of Ms. Olsen–will sing. (If nothing else you have to see these cute kids!) Saturday afternoon is the Blues and BBQ. This year they are celebrating women in the blues. We love going to this concert. Love the venue, love the people.

This is a slightly amusing story. (very slight) “Bo” Anderson, a few months ago, said that my name came up at a Nature Coast Friends of the Blues meeting. In case you didn’t know, Bo is the owner of the Museum Cafe and an absolutely wonderful musician and in charge of the Blues and BBQ. (I am not a member of that great group but want to be as soon as I retire, heh) They were considering asking me to be on the board. Oh, scheesch, how do I turn that down? Music, blues, bbq, fun? But Bo said that someone else stepped forward. (I would totally love being on that board. But….I just have too much going on.) Turned out my good musician friend PK Webb volunteered to be take on the job. We were jamming a couple weeks ago after she took the job and discussing the situation. PK is an amazing guitarist. So much fun to hang out with and jam with and I know that she will be a much better asset to the board than me!

And where do I go from here? The Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival of course! This is an amazing event that pours in 10s of thousands of dollars into our community. Not just the civic club, but all of our local shops and venues. Terry and I have been working the festival since 2015. The first year the amazing Better Miller was in charge. The next year Terry took over. There are so many details. So many i’s to dot and t’s to cross. In 2015 we had very few volunteers. We were actually advised, “oh, they will just show up.” They didn’t. But we are very good at learning from our experiences. This is our fifth year being involved. We have SO many volunteers. And even volunteers that volunteer to organize the volunteers!

Ha!

I know that you are coming to the festival. I will be in an orange shirt. (And so will all the volunteers! But I’m the tall woman with gray hair and a hat. Oh, that doesn’t help?) That’s part of the amazing thing about this festival. We are all wearing the same shirts. If you have a question or an issue, you can ask any of those orange-shirted people. They know where the walkie-talkies are and can get the main peeps involved. Everyone that volunteers really CARE THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!!

Because the festival brings in the money so we can give it to our little community.

Good things!

Have a great weekend! If you see me out and about do not hesitate to say hi! Love to hear from my readers! (Unless, of course, you are weird.)

Kathy
