I took a bit of a vacation. Kind of got overwhelmed with too much busyness.
I’ve been trying to get my life in order, categorized and organized and prioritized.
I quit writing for the NatureCoaster.com. It didn’t take all that much time to write there a few times a month but I had to start eliminating somewhere. I took a month off from my DIY blog, too.
Went to Phoenix for four days to visit family.
Went to North Dakota for the oldest grandson’s graduation. Stayed there for two weeks.

This pic is a wee bit blurry. Teach to me to hand my camera to a total stranger! Should have given him my iPhone. Everyone knows how to use a smart phone for capturing life’s important moments!
Anyhow….. I’m home for awhile. Recuperating from the travels. Need to catch up in my yard. Lots of weeds growing along with all the pretties.
Speaking of….
I add butterfly host plants in with the flowers. Mostly parsley because it’s easy to grow from seed and was delighted to find some swallowtail caterpillars on these….
Dill is another host plant and I usually do not have much luck with it but this year I had about three plants that popped up. And those were also being devoured by caterpillars…
I have a lot of parsley and as I was wondering how the dill could possibly feed all these hungry caterpillars a red wasp swooped down and ate one. Later that afternoon I checked and there was only one left.
There goes my lovely bunch of swallowtails. Circle of life.
It’s Friday! And tomorrow, April 6th from 9 am to 5 pm is Old Homosassa Community Day!
Come out and meet some of your neighbors, shop at the giant yard sale to help out the Old Homosassa Heritage Council, get lunch and a beer from the American Legion Post 166, enjoy music on the stage. (The Homosassa Ukers are on at 11 am!)
Oh yeah, and there’s a CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT! I’ve heard rumours that there is a cornhole team that will be showing up to take part. Just second hand information…. anyhow, if you want to sign up for the tournament, it’s $10 a team, half the pot goes to the winning team. The rest of the money goes to support the numerous free programs at the Old Homosassa Learning Center. The learning center will also be selling water and soda and there will be a face painter for the kids–free, of course! (generous donations are of course accepted!)
All the proceeds from Old Homosassa Community Day go back to the community!
Next Saturday, April 13th is the FIRST GOLF CART DRIVE IN MOVIE! The movie–Mary Poppins Returns–starts at dusk but the famous Chris & Rob will be making music on the stage earlier. About 7 pm. Popcorn and Soda provided by Rural King and there will be food available for purchase. You can read more about it on NatureCoaster.com.
The local real estate market is HOT in Old Homosassa. Two of our neighbors sold their houses and closed recently. Also know of people that sold property a few weeks ago.
There was a mobile home on the corner of Hancock and Spring Court for many years. It had to have been flooded in both the “No-Name Storm” and Hurricane Hermine. Suddenly it was gone and now huge piles of dirt are being delivered every day to elevate whatever they will end up putting in.

Here’s a lot on Garcia getting ready for a modular home and one was just delivered on Banyon.
A LOT of non-elevated homes were flooded because of Hermine. Some were remodeled, others were torn down and replaced with Acme Homes (modular).
Two Acme Homes
and a few were even elevated on stilts.
Old house put on new stilts.
There’s a requirement that homes built in the flood zones be at a certain height. I’m not sure what it is anymore. When ours was built it was 8 foot above sea level. That was back in 1990 so I’m assuming that houses have to be built even higher now.
Which leads me to this house….
We’ve been watching it being built and thought it looks really cool. Kind of a modern appearance. It’s being built on Hancock Road. Not on the water, but definitely a flood zone. Yet. The entire first floor is closed in. When we had our garage built, we had to have several little open windows around the bottom so if there is a flood the water can drain out. Curious as to how this house is flood proof and can pass the building standards.
Got to say congratulation to Rosey Rendulez who just won her election to a seat on the Homosassa Special Water District. This was an interesting competition. It was a special election because the incumbent that won the seat back in November passed away before he was even sworn in. It got slightly dirty with political signs disappearing and at least one disparaging email going out. The newspaper actually sided with Rosey’s competition. But what I’m really disappointed with is that out of 3224 eligible voters, less than 11% actually bothered to vote. There were mail in ballots and the polls were open on election day. Sad that so many of my neighbors are so apathetic.
Terry and I went to Dunnellon last Friday and had lunch at Blue Gator. Yum. Wonderful weather, nice view, food was good, and service was great. We both had grouper sandwiches.

I am still making bunnies. I seem to have an obsession with these wascaly wabbits. Hopefully I’ll get over it by Easter. I joined the #100dayproject over on Instagram. My project is to learn how to design and create softies. Probably not a good time for me to jump into a project since I’ve got at lot going on but when is a good time? If you want to follow along my instagram name is DesignKTG.

So here’s a few more pics for the week.
First, this one is from a few weeks ago. I forgot to post it. But I think it’s worth seeing.
March 23, 2019, I thought this might be a park as I drove by and actually went back to take the pic. Nope. It’s by the mailbox at someone’s house in Live Oak. Gotta be a story there!

March 30, 2019, I should be seeing a lot of Monarch Butterflies soon!
April 2, 2019, I didn’t take this snap but love it. Some of our local leaders got their golf carts out and cleaned up Mason Creek Road. Amazing!
Have a great weekend! Come on out to community day and enjoy the music, food, and fellowship!
