Friday Meanderings

Happy Friday!

It’s been a great week!

Shrimpapalooza was last Saturday.

So much fun!

And our first time in the Shrimpapalooza Parade!

The day started with breakfast at the Old Mill–the only day of the whole year that they serve breakfast!

Breakfast at Old Mill
(yeah, breakfast and bloody marys)

Shrimpapalooza

Shrimpapalooza

By now, you might know that the Shrimpapalooza is all about celebrating everything SHRIMP!

It starts with a parade.  Since Old Homosassa is a golf cart community, there might be a few golf carts involved, or maybe 50!

That looks kinda creepy but it’s SHRIMP COCKTAIL on top of a golf cart!

And friends.

Here’s a bunch of walking shrimp and monkeys from Monkey Island!

Nice outfit, Sunday!

I have no idea why there is an Ape in the Shrimpapalooza! But he was very popular!

And then there was a festival!  Lots of fun and food vendors selling SHRIMP!

Terry and I took our turn at working in the Old Homosassa Heritage Council Booth.  We have three really great raffles, new 2017 t-shirts, and THE AMAZING RACE!

Shrimpaplooza

The AMAZING RACE starts on April 23rd with a kick-off party at Village Toyota-Cadillac.  $25 and you get into the race and a free t-shirt or poster.  This is going to be FUN!  Clues will be given every week. The race ends on June 11th. The winners will be getting CASH!  And I’m not on that committee so you can’t bribe me to get the clues early!

So what else went on this week????

Terry and I went to the Citrus County Mosquito Control Board’s Open House.  Now, this sounds like a lame outing, but it was great!  I thought we’d see some displays and there’d be some handouts.  But this was a walking tour with a guide.  We got to see all the inner workings of their operation.  Even the helicopter!  This is a group that is doing a great service for our county. I’m sorry I didn’t get any photos.

Spent some time at the Learning Center.  No.  I spent a LOT OF TIME at the Learning Center.  But it was fun. We have a new little girl that came in on Wednesday to learn how to sew.  OMG!  She was so excited and listened to everything I said.  And that kid was sewing!  Her brother is in the guitar class and he is the best guitar student.

Also started our new adult “Sew Cool! Workshop”.  Faith Peix, our instructor was a bit worried about leading the class but did a great job.  We still have room for a few more sewist!  Doesn’t matter what level you are at in the sewing world, you will fit in!  Thursday, 12:30 – 3:00.  At the Learning Center.  Right across from the Homosassa Elementary School.

Have a great weekend!

Friday Meanderings

I’ve had Alexa for four weeks now.

Time flies by when you are having fun!  Right?

I asked her the other day if she was spying on us.  She was obviously dismayed and said that she only contacts Amazon when she wakes up.

I also like to thank her for helping me out.  Try to be kind to my future keeper.

We have been talking to her.  I’ve been asking her to play certain music since she arrived.  I already used Amazon music so it was just natural.  Also great to tell her to turn it down when I get a phone call.  I don’t have to get my lazy butt up and manually turn down the volume.

We also ask what the weather will be, what the headlines are.

Alexa has become the really smart polite child that doesn’t talk back unless we want her to!

Ok.  I love Alexa today but will I still love her when she and her kind take over the world????

So many questions with no answers.

Ok.  If you are my “friend” on FB you have already seen all the snaps I took from the “Old Homosassa Community Day”.

But because everyone isn’t my FB “friend”, here’s the shots again!

Old Homosassa Heritage Council

The Old Homosassa Heritage Council made over $2000 on the yard sale.  But let’s put that into perspective–we need $40,000 to paint the water tower.

The Shrimpapalooza is this Saturday.  This is SUCH A FUN EVENT.  Starts with a parade.  Some people dress like shrimp.  Some of those shrimp are in pots.  To boil.

Yes, this is a very unique event.

Gotta admit, we aren’t prepared.  Terry and I and our golf cart will be in the parade.  But we will be very plain compared to the rest of the entourage.

There’s a new website for the Homosassa Civic Club.  It’s HomosassaCivicClubInc.org.  I haven’t quite got it finished but you can check it out and give me suggestions!

And things for your calendar.

Terry and I will be at all the following events….

Mosquito Control Open House, March 22nd.

Steak and Steak at M&B Dairy on April 13th.  Funds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Citrus County.

Cayla’s Coats will be hosting a disco night on April 29th at the Key Training Center.  Cayla’s Coats provide coats, life jackets, and swim scholarships for children in need in Citrus County.

I know Cayla’s grandmother.  I made the mistake of asking her what the Cayla’s Coats thing was all about. This is the short version. Cayla drowned in one of the canals off of the Homosassa River.  Family and friends were getting ready to go out on the boat and no one noticed that Cayla was missing.  My throat still wells up every time I think about it.

I’m sure there’s more!

Have a great weekend.

Friday Meanderings

squirrel

I went out to take a snap with my iPad Pro.  It’s relatively new.  The photos are amazing.  I think I might have to put my 35mm DSLR camera away since this little flat screen takes higher pixeles.

But I digress.

Thought I’d get a shot of the golden sunset.

And got photobombed!

squirrel

By a damn squirrel.

They are always around, chattering away at me, but even more so in the spring.

SO MANY SQUIRRELS!  All asking me when I’m going to plant my vegetable garden.  Or as the rats with fluffy tails call it–“snack time”.

Although this shot is a little pixelated. I like it! Crazy cartoonish squirrel!

No vegetables this year, squirrels.  You’ll have to just keep chewing on the coleus!

Today is a big weekend for Terry and I and the whole entire Old Homosassa community.

Our FIRST ANNUAL OLD HOMOSASSA COMMUNITY DAY!

Yard sale is supposed to start at 9 am on Saturday in the Civic Center.  But, despite me being someone that is a rule follower so I was totally against it, rumour has it that at least two rebels will be opening up the shop at 7 AM!  All you early birds out there–be there!

And there is a lot of GOOD stuff!

If you want any free books–and I’m talking really good books and a lot of them for all ages–stop by the Learning Center between 9 am and 10:30 am on Saturday.  We are starting an honor library.  Take a book, leave a book, return or not.  There’s also two computers in the library for the community to use.  We follow the school schedule and are open from Monday to Wednesday from 3 pm to 5:30 pm to adults and children.

Which means we WON’T be open next week because Spring Break is next week.  The Learning Center Staff is all off to Daytona Beach for the week to get some rays in our bikinis.

Ha!

Next Saturday, the 18th, is the Shrimpapalooza. SO MUCH FUN! Food, music, food, music.  And it all starts with a parade through Old Homosassa!  Yeah, Terry and I will be there.  We are in the parade on our golf cart representing the Homosassa Civic Club and then working in the booth for the Old HOmosassa Heritage Council.

And so exciting what the OHHC has to offer this year.  Raffle tickets for

  1.  Kayak Launch
  2.  Ruger
  3.  Fish Cleaning Table

Plus the t-shirts I showed you last week and an amazing scavenger hunt.  Kind of like the Amazing Race but not really since it will be limited to Homosassa.

Or will it?

OH WAIT–WE HAVE POSTERS, TOO!

OMG

And here’s one last squirrel.  KInd of artsy.  Solitary squirrel.  So alone.  A rebel.  Or bipolar.  Who knows?
