Friday Meanderings

Shrimpapalooza!

OMG!

SO MUCH FUN!

Of course, we started out at the Old Mill Tavern for breakfast–biscuits, gravy, hashbrowns, and bloody Mary’s.  The only day of the year that Old Mill does breakfast.  Could be because the Shrimpapalooza parade only starts from the Old Mill one day a year!

The idea of gravy on biscuits made out of fat laden sausage kind of turns my stomach. My biscuits are sans gravy! But my bloody Mary has shrimp, olives and celery! YUM!

This is our cart for the parade.

KInd of embarrassing.

Looks like Terry is over there trying to get the Messina’s to let him ride with them!

How about this group????

That guy had tights on.  See through tights.  There were a LOT of snaps circulated on FB!

Friday Meanderings

This was about 9 am on Saturday.  Wondering when they started drinking to get him into those tights?  (and should I mention that it was really cold???)

Tim Dorsey, famous Florida author, was the grand marshall.  That’s Laurel and me.  Three famous people in Old Homosassa!

Friday Meanderings

After the parade I bought a book from him at the festival.

Friday Meanderings

Mr. Dorsey suggested I buy this one because Old Homosassa is in it.  And it is!  I’ve slowly been reading it.  Cool.

On to other things.

Old Homosassa Community Day.

This is the “Homosassa Ukers”.  We are performing at 11:30 AM at community day.  I’m supposed to be in the photo but I couldn’t get the camera timer to work.  Kinda sad because this is such a fun shot.  Tells a story. Story that a lot of senior citizens from the Woodstock era are still a wee bit insane.

Okay.  Don’t you want to be there?????

Now I’m gonna close with with some pics.

The African Iris are blooming like crazy.

My first rose for the season!  Almost exactly 6 weeks after I trimmed the roses on Valentine’s Day.

And the last bestest photo of all!

PUPPY OF THE WEEK!

Kimber!  Adorable boxer puppy that is guarding the offices of the Homosassa Special Water District!  So Smart.  Already knows to sit on command and shake hands!  (very spoiled and well loved poochie!)

Hope you have a super weekend!

Kathy

Friday Meanderings

Ohhhh.

It’s Friday.

And let me tell you why I don’t always get a post up in time to actually publish it on Friday.  (Although you know I have a lot to meander about!)

I’m at the Old Homosassa Learning Center almost the entire day on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday is the hardest because it starts with an hour and half of yoga, then a mad dash home for a shower and lunch.  Back by 12:15 for Sew Cool! Workshop. Followed by two hours of volunteering with the after-school program.

Not complaining. That’s what I want my retirement to be.

But sometimes I just don’t want to sit down.  Have a glass of wine.  And fall asleep.  Oh wait, that’s what I’m doing now!

The kids at the Learning Center were particularly trying this week. Probably cause they were excited that…..

Next week is Spring Break.  Did you hear all of our volunteers go WHOOP!

Sad. But. True.!

Three volunteers plus our after-school coordinator.  Three days a week. And we are all wiped out by the end of those two hours.

Yes. I need a wee vacation.

And let’s continue talk about happy news!

Shrimpapalooza!  Saturday!  Parade! Beads!

SO MUCH FUN!

So many other things going on.  This is Banjo Camp weekend.  I’ve gone three years.  Decided not to go this year.  A little sad.

It’s also “Mermaid weekend”.  That’s when all my mermaid friends get together in Cedar Key for the art show.  (Yes these are real mermaids. From Weeki Wachee! Not my imagination!) Thought I’d go up on Sunday but right now I’m leaning towards sleeping in then having a Bloody Mary!

But I’m staying home so I can go to the Shrimpapalooza on Saturday.

If you lived here.  You. Would. Too.

Tim Dorsey. Famous Florida Writer. Is. The. Grand. Marshall. of the parade.  Which is mostly golf carts and local people!  WOO-HOO!

And there’s a festival afterwards!

We’ll be at the Old Mill Tavern for Biscuits, gravy, and Bloody Mary’s at 8 am.  Parade starts at 10 am.

See you there!

Never a dull moment in Old Homosassa!

Still looking for artists and crafters for the Old Homosassa Community Day on April 7th.  Only $20 for a booth.  This is going to be a ton of fun!  Chuck Andrews is doing open mic on the stage and has invited many of his friends to sing.  These people are professionals that sing all over the place and are great.  And they are doing it for free!  Just to support the community!

Oh yeah, the Homosassa Ukers are also playing.  And just want to say that we are not professionals!  11:30 on Saturday, April 7th.  Come to our debut concert.  Right there on the stage.  With Chuck trying not to laugh!

I tried to get one of the guitar students to do open mic.  She is a great singer.  She said no.  I said oh, it will be fun.  She said will there be people there?  I said yes.  She said no.

Here’s a cool puppy pic!

That’s Leroy. He was so excited to meet Lexi that he wouldn’t hold still long enough for me to take a snap. His tail was going about 100 miles an hour. Lexi got a lot of puppy kisses.

Spent a day at the courthouse for another county commissioners’ meeting.  We are inching closer to getting the Old Homosassa Heritage Park turned into a reality!

Have a great weekend!
